The problem is that you can't reliably calculate DPS like that because it depends on whom you're attacking against. Also, it depends on the move the defender has, if the move is low base damage but high attack speed (like water gun) you can often just ignore it due to low defensive DPS.
For this very reason, faster attacks are generally considered better for attacking since it's easier to adapt to defenders attack cycle. Slower attacks on the other hand are better for defending.
