Arcanine worth powering up?
I really like Arcanine and wish he was better, but compared to Flareon or Moltres, is Arcanine worth stardust? I know Fire currently isn't that useful, but things can always change.
People always ask, so idk what I'd plan to use it for-- Just to have another Fire type ready if that's ever needed, I guess. Just wondering if it'd be way better to just power up another Flareon or a Moltres, given their available movesets vs. Arcanine. The 2 I'm considering are one with FF/FB and one with FF/FT, both level 20 and really nice IVs.

Play the game the way that makes you happy. Arcanine may not be THE BEST fire mon, but he's tanky and if you have a good one with a good moveset, make yourself happy. Yes, the numbers favor Moltres and Flareon, and in the future, Entei, but what's the point if you're not having fun?
THIS!
I have a Moltres and Flareon both with optimal movesets (FS/O). However, Arcanine has always been one of my favorites, so I've powered up my FF/FT one to the max. Not a bad gym Pokemon and can definitely be used as an attacker when it has any type advantages.
Don't be lame. Power up your favorite 'mons. My level 37 Miltank says you should!
Also, Moltres and Flareon will be useless once we get Ho Oh. So why waste dust there if you don't like them?
Moltres is a fire specialist; Ho Oh is not - due to moveset differences. To the pros, each is different, and for specialized uses.
To TC, sadly, after your initial joy of using your favorite (but sub-performance) Arcanine, you will find it sitting in storage more and more, and using it less and less. That's just how it is generally. Just say'n.
OK, but what is he using it on? Grasses and bugs in gyms? What level grass pokemon is he not going to annihilate in a gym with a strong Arcanine?
Grass and ice raids? You'll need more than one mon for all of them, and a strong Arcanine fits the bill.
I'm not saying there aren't better options to invest dust in ON PAPER. There are. But if you're going to get a kick out of using your favorite, if using your favorite keeps your interest in the game stronger, then don't let anyone tell you not to or that you'll regret powering him up.
You won't.
I like arcanine for the fact that he gets access to fire fang which currently has the shortest cooldown of fire moves (not by much, I think it's .9s, ember is 1s and FS is 1.1s?)
I would go FF/FT if you end up doing it-FT is legacy plus it has such a similar dps to fire blast that having nearly half the cooldown gives it a benefit.
Entei also gets access to FF. I don't think it's attack is as high as say Flareon or Moltres's but it's bulllkky
Edit: sorry -FT is legacy, not FF
Play the game the way you like it. For me, I like Flareon (and all Eeveelutions), so I'm not so interested in Arcanine. Also, I still don't have a Moltres.
Because there isn't much use for fire attackers now, I find a use for my Flareons and Charizard. I use Flareon to fight Blisseys, and Charizard for Snorlaxes.
I think if you like him and the IVs are good then go for it. Move sets are a wash because the ability to change them now, at least that's the way I look at it. Especially if he's one of your favorite then go for it. You can always get more stardust. Heck if it makes you feel better I'm in the process of powering up a Marowak because he's one of my favorites, and on similar cp gyms battles he's my first choice just because he's one of my favorites.
