Zapdos attacks

So Today I finally got my first bird above 91%, this is my Zapdos. I wanted to ask what is the best moveset, not only in terms of pure DPS but in terms of usability in battle, future proof, faster animations, etc...
I normally try to dodge everything but sometimes I end up only dodging charge moves. Would you TM him? Or it is fine like it is now?

I have looked at the numbers on GamePress but I like to know other player's opinions and experiences, sometimes a number can't say why one thing is better than the other.

Thank you.

I got one with that same CP. Guessing that is 98% with a 15 ATT as well.

TB is my favorite of those listed. I used that and ZC a couple times yesterday and between that use and the numbers I would say they are both very usable. I often prefer 2 bar moves but ZC feels like the electric version of OH on a Flareon. My goal is to get a high CP version of both before it all ends.

And if you could only have one at high CP? Would you choose TB or ZC? I have ZC on my Ampharos and I like it but It feels like pretty slow isn't it? That is the reason why I was thinking on using a TM on the Zapdos...

I feel ZC is a bit slow but with a great payoff. Like I said it really "feels" a lot like Overheat on a Flareon.

If I could only have one it would be TB.

As a rough guide I look at them like this.

2 Thunder Bolts vs 1 Zap + 1 Charge vs 1 Thunder + 2 Charge. This is pretty close on time (5 vs 4.8 vs 4.6 and considering lost energy I round to evenness)

2 TB = 160 / 100 Energy = 1.6
1 Zap +1 Charge = 148 / 85 Energy = 1.74
1 Thunder +2 Charge = 116 / 70 Energy = 1.65

So all 3 moves are basically same. Anything under 10 percent difference here can spike which is best

It also depends on how you value Dodging and the possibility of extra wasted energy or if you fighting multiple defenders and carrying over energy

Thank you!! I will keep the math on mind before I make a decision. I think ZC is a good move for sure, my doubt is if it will fit my style. I dodge normally, at least charge moves and sometimes both fast and charge.

Disagree. Look at the raw cycle damage per second (before factoring in Strength/Weakness, Att/Def ratio, and without Damage->Energy):

Thunderbolt: 20.757
Zap Cannon: 20.632
Thunder: 18.535

I've spreadsheeted a bunch of mon and their Cycle damage per second - total damage done divided by time to charge up one bar with quick attacks plus time to use charged attack. Most mon are around 20 with their best move set, Zapdos is no exception. The 10% decrease for Thunder is a pretty big deal - it's comparable to the difference between SW/O and SW/HB or SW/Hurricane. (With DT, the CDPS goes up to 24.1 for DT/HB, 24.6 for DT/H, and 25.2 for DT/O, all phenomenally strong attacks.)

So Thunder is considerably weaker than the other two. The other factor is that, when PvP comes around, Thunderbolt will be pretty hard to dodge, and Zap Cannon fairly easy to dodge, almost as easy as Hyper Beam. For PvP, it's a lot like facing attacks when taking down a Gym - Earthquake and HB are very dodgable, SE and Thunderbolt are not.

YMMV, of course.

I saw a 1898 Zapdos yesterday and had 12 balls. I will nearly pissing in my pants with excitement until i realized there was no chance i was catching it. Every throw was great or an excellent. he did not want to be caught:( Congratz tho! I would keep Zap Cannon

I really feel you lost it...I know the feeling. I have made 18 Lugia, only caught 4 of them, and none I have seen/caught is above 82% so....a different situation but a similar feeling. Keep trying! I really think the game will reward you in the near future, don't give up!

Thanks, i think yesterday was just an off day. I just want 1 maybe 2 solid 15 attack zapdos' to power up and possibly max.

There are definitely bad streaks/days in Pokemon Go. I remember the first day Moltres came out, I went 0 for 4* catching it. I had an error message in one of the raids. It wouldn't let me catch the Moltres. The following day I went 3 for 3. I finished the Moltres event on a 6 catch streak. So just because you had a bad day yesterday, doesn't mean you'll have a bad day today.

That is what i am hoping for, i caught 2 zapdos day one. Literally hitting him with a great or excellent is way easier.

I'm digging Zap Cannon. Its reminiscent of an electric version of Solar Beam with its animation raining down from the heavens onto your opponent.
