Espeon from eevee buddying instructions?

I'm buddying an eevee I caught (level 30 93 IV) for 11K (10K plus buffer). If I remember correctly, you then evolve it during the day for an Espeon, but it has to still be your buddy at the time you evolve. Is this the correct way to do it? Any tips on things to avoid that could screw it up?

That's correct.

as long as you got 2 candies along the way (wouldn't see why if you went 11km).

Cool, thanks. Last time I did this, I forgot to keep him as my buddy and it failed. This time, I'm going to make sure I've got it figured!

You also have to get 2 candies from him, otherwise you'll get a random first gen form.
