Which Gengar to power up?
1st Gengar: Lv 30 14/15/15 Hex/Shadow Ball CP2228
2nd Gengar: Lv 25 11/10/10 Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball CP 1789
I have currently 64 Gastly candies, and I am walking a Gengar as a buddy now. With my resources available, If I powered up the 1st Gengar, it will get around 2400CP, if I powered up the 2nd one, it will get around 2236CP.
Is Shadow Claw Gengar significantly better than Hex? Is it worth powering up a Gengar past Lv30 for legendary raids?

Gengar does not need to be maxed out to get the best performance of Hex. Maxing it out is just wasting Stardust and candies. Unless you need the extra Hit Points to solo tier 3 raid bosses.
To reach the highest DPS of Hex, basically you need a Gengar with around 14 ATK IV and a very high trainer level that can really max out Pokémon.
I have 5 Gengars that I never use, four are level 20 to 22 w/good ivs (SC/DP; SP/FB; SP/ShB; SC/SlB).
The obvious better one is 27.5 82% (14 attack) 2002cp, but it has SC/Dark Pulse. I'm not going to rush to charge TM it since I barely use it, mainly for general knowledge sake. Is Dark Pulse an overwhelming inferior charge move compared to the other current possibilities (example: Dragonite w/ HB; Machamp w/ HS; Tyranitar w/ Fire Blast)?
I've been trying and trying to get to level 35 before this Go Fest weekend, and I did it! 39k stardust in 2 days...to celebrate raided a Gengar Boss. It was Sludge Bomb...took it down with some time to spare. I got 6 rare candy and the Gengar I caught was Hex/Focus Blast 14 attack 14 hp and 15 defense, pretty pleased
