Can I walk out of the distance of the gym after start battling raid?

This is not true. You proceed to the capture screen as usual regardless of how far you've moved from the gym. However, if your game errors out or crashes for whatever reason, I believe you need to be close to the gym to get back to the capture screen (not sure as it hasn't happened to me - I've moved away while battling and captured the boss normally multiple times though)
