Defender and Attackers of lesser fame
What defenders and attackers do you use that aren't making the headlines? I am in search of a little diversity in my lineup, but I don't want to waste my resources either.
As an example, I found Chansey to be pretty good as a defender. I have had one holding the bottom position of a gym for more than a week now. Chansey isn't listed in a lot of lists as a top defender.
For an attacker, I have found Rhydon to be better than it gets credit for. Even with the typing draw backs, mine seems to be an effective part of a team of attackers.
Any recommendations based on your experience?

IMO, Chansey is really only good when used as a time waster in an already full gym, as it's always going to be the first one knocked out. Chansey was a lot better when you'd train with a single pokemon so its insanely low CP was actually a benefit.
Poliwrath is known for being an amazing defender, but I have one with Mud Shot and Hydro Pump and am quite pleased with his damage. The Bubble animation on attack is frustrating and slow, so Mud Shot makes dodging way easier.
Bad typed pokemon like Rhydon/Golem on attack are fine since you get to pick their matchups, wish those had some help for defending.
Golem is something better than Rhydon. I've three around 1700-1900 CP and with Stone Edge they are very good against Arcanine, Snorlax (without Earthquake), Dragonite (without Steel Wing) and even help with Lapras.
If you want something different, Starmie, Parasect, Machamp, Slowbro, the three starters, Wigglytuff and Omastar are good ideas. Or even a venom Tentacruel vs Vaporeon.
Defending... certainly, after the change in gym mechanics, there's no real difference what you put on them, because now is very easy to defeat quickly everything.
