The new gym system is still far from good
So I have been wandering around defeating gyms and spending all my hard earned potions and revives to take them down. Game was back and forth, earning about 30-50 coins a day, which is fine, because the daily coin cap is 50.
These last days the bad part about the system has been really annoying me. What is happening is that noone is attacking gyms right now around my area. What does that mean? It means that I have a handful of pokemons stuck in gyms, I can't use them in raids or against other gyms and I'm not getting coins quite so frequently.
Problems with the new gym system:
1 - Pokemons are dropping motivation way too slow.
2 - Feeding berries to a gym is slowly scaring away people from attacking it.
3 - Not being able to "cashout" your pokemon's coins after it reaches the daily cap, meaning your pokemons are stuck until someone defeats it.
4 - Opposite teams are not attacking so that you don't earn your coins, and in turn you will to the same.
5 - You use up too much resources just to defeat a gym.
6 - Close to no rewards for taking a gym down, unless you keep it for longer than a few hours after that.
7 - Attacking a gym becomes an advantage to the defending team, because they get the coins and reset their timer, thus motivating them to regain control and hold it again until the next day.
8 - Holding various gyms does not reward you any more than holding just one.
Solutions I propose to each point above:
1 - Make motivation drop completely after 24 hours and if your badge is at maximum, double that amount.
2 - Set a cap for motivation you raise when feeding pokemons. Ex: after 12 hours defending, you can only raise it to a maximum of 75% motivation.
3 - Make it possible to release a Pokemon from the gym after a few hours, cashing in it's rewards out to you. It's just bad for the game not being able to, and attackers feel discouraged because there are always the same defenders there.
4 - If you could cashout your pokemon or if the motivation drops faster, people will feel more encouraged to attack gyms and it will be more dynamic and fun!
5 - Make it a two stage fight, not a three stage fight. It's just boring having to defeat the defenders three times, and it adds nothing to the game as the last stage they are mostly bellow 1000 cp.
6 - Set the gold cap again to 100 per day and give us some Stardust for the love of god!
7 - Reward a few miserable coins for defeating a gym or just SOMETHING, what's the point of attacking a long defending team? They will just get their daily 50 coins and you get nothing. It's just horrible..
8 - Separate the gold cap between each gym and not a daily. This will encourage people to hold the maximum number of gyms they can.
Sorry for the long post. I love this game and I hate to see it get this boring. Some of these solutions may be a bit over the top, but some are definitely worth a check.
Cheers

I mentioned this immediately when the new gym system dropped...Gyms are really just so broken now IMO...It's worst than before. At least before, you can usually do a few on the way to work, morning, whatever and get 10-20...now, you may get kicked out in < 1 hour and get 5 or 6...or never get kicked out and get zip...I see some guys in my old fav gyms been there for like 8 days now!
Also, minority team members should never bother to attack because the late night person gets their 8 hours of coins, then the majority team comes back and kicks them out in an hour and they get 6 or less coins...6 spots are instantly opened, back to 6 mons again and a waste of time for people to attack.
Fighting gyms are just boring IMO...
Also, once I get my 50 for the day, what's my motivation to attack again? (waste time/potions/revives which I'm swimming in due to not having to prestige or retake territory...)...again, I don't find gyms really that fun...
I think they should just dump the whole gym thing and make them all NPC gyms...rotate themed gyms every 2 weeks maybe and have a high score list like we had in the arcades 30-40 years ago (yes, I'm old)...Put scores based on some equation that weighs damage done to the defenders (mostly time DPS), if you can do an all clear, factor in damage taken (for people who dodge), how many of your mons faint while you attack, etc...Come up with some "score" and rank everyone that challenges that NPC "Gym Leader"...
With "your" hi-score, you can display your top Mon you used for that battle gym so now, EVERYONE can display their mon for that gym...
Have the list 1000+ trainer strong, who cares...maybe top 10 on the high score list gets 10 coins or whatever...
Like how some games on Steam have rankings that are in the tens of thousands, do the same so people can see themselves and if they can be the "very best" in their area/gym...
With themed gyms, you may not have the best attackers into every type of mon so possibly diff people can lead the rankings...
Of course, this leads to higher level people doing better, but you can just have different levels/leagues with a diff set of rankings/rewards...(Levels 5-20, 20-30, 31-35, 36-40)...
You say, but what about Defenders? I say, defenders are already useless now, but at least now, you can "challenge" your rivals to see who can get a higher score for everyone to see.
Imo the old gym system wasn't perfect & needed afew tweaks but this new system has so much wrong with it I would rip it up & start again. They should seek the opinions & advice on just how to do this from the pogo community, people who's love of the game would ensure a gym system that works for everyone.
Honestly this whole argument is about coins. When players could collect coins by leaving mons in gyms they were very happy to have them stay now it seems everyone wants to get kicked out 8f gyms to get coins.
Am I the only one who sees coins as irrelevant? What are they useful for? There is no end game! So you get coins to go on raids or buy incubators but to what end? Simply to have higher cp mons that are now utterly useless.
Personally I like to battle gyms only for the fun of it and to showcase to the world the mons I have collected.
