Anyone using Hypno or Aerodactyl?

I have two pokemon I am not sure what to do with. Defenders? Attackers? Should I invest stardust in these mons?

Hypno IV 93.3%
Zen HB/Psychic

Aerodactyl IV 97.8%
Bite/Hyper Beam

I have tried using the Hypno and haven't done very well with him in battle. But at level 20, I am not sure if it is because of the CP level.

The Aerodactyl I was thinking might be a decent attacker since it has some favorable matchups?

Aerodactyls stats are too low and no stab...not good enough to power IMO.

Thanks. I appreciate the response. Hypno seems to have high ratings. Worth building?

Full Psychic Exeggutors are much better than Hypnos (Zen/Psy for attack or Conf/Psy for defense).

Hypno Stats: attack 162, defense 196, stamina 170.
max cp: 2184.

Exeggutor Stats: attack 232, defense 164, stamina 190.
max cp: 2955.

I know its frustrating spend dust in the same poke and not on ur preference but thats the game IMO. If you really want spend on him go ahead, its not useless, just have better options to use your dust.

I like the idea of using secondary pokemons in niche situations. I thought Aerodactyl could be useful (e.g., against Snorlax) but it's not worth it. Base stats are too low. From a matchup perspective, I can do better with Pidgeot vs. Snorlax with Lick / Earthquake.

As defenders, Hypno does ok. But the lowish CP means he'll be at the bottom of the gym and hence will be one of the first ones to go when the gym gets attacked.

This is the biggest problem with the gym game. Low CP mons are pretty much useless.

Thanks. This confirms it, Aerodactyl doesn't get the stardust. It has been one of my biggest problems, finding the right mons to sink the stardust into.

This is my issue as well...unless you spend a lot of money to get incubators, too many wild mons have too low IVs which I don't really want to spend my dust on. I suppose the positive side is that we'll all hit lvl 30 by the time we have ones to power up and can splurge then...And some recommend to wait till 30 anyways.

I'm just powering up 2 Lapri so far (lucky hatches)...and evolving the usual helpful Eevee and Growlithe (over 300k dust and counting).

I have a couple of the usual suspects I am leveling up. A couple of Execuggtors, an Arcanine and a Poliwrath. I hatched a Chansey who seems to be holding gyms without building it up so far. I have an ok Vaporeon that helps me attack into gyms. It is all of the other ones that puzzle me. Part of the fun is playing with the diversity. But it seems like investing in high IV mons like Kabutops, Cloyster or Marowak for example are just not worth it the way the game is played today.

Thanks for the tip about level 30. I had not heard that.

Hypno isn't a bad "neutral" attacker, you can always throw him in a lineup and know he will do pretty well. He has no real weaknesses to worry about and his moveset is reliable.

Hypno makes a solid defender if your local gym levels make him viable. I powered one up to 1800 cp and locally he does okay (tends to sit about 1/3 up the gym). He's not as powerful as an Exeggcutor, but psychic moves are hard to counter and he doesn't have the type weaknesses the grasses have (a lot of local players seem to have realised that Eggy isn't that fearsome a challenge if you've got a decent bug/Pidgeot/fire).

As an attacker he does okay against just about anything, but he's solid rather than spectacular.

Aerodactyl looks impressive but I've been unimpressed both defensively and attacking wise.

Thanks for the comment. Seems like I should just hold off for a bit before committing to Hypno. Aerodactyl is just going to sit the bench unless a rebalance later makes it more viable.
