Are Flareon and Charizard more important than before?

Fire types are not very useful before the gym update because of their bad typing in the meta i.e. NVE to 5 of the big 7, and weak to 4 of these 5.
But now, with grass type raid bosses Exeggutor and Venusaur, and with increasing numbers of Exeggutors in gyms, are fire types (mainly Flareon and Charizard because of high DPS moveset) more important as attackers now?
Also, between Flareon and Charizard, which do you prefer? I prefer Charizard because of slightly more bulk and additional resistances, but I don't have a FS/OH Charizard (though I have quite a few old WA/FB ones), and Flareon is so much easier to obtain (75 candies from a mostly common Pokemon vs 125 candies from a starter).

Last night I was looking at the top counters for all the Legendaries on pokebattler. It had both of them listed as counters for a few of them, just due to their raw DPS. I think they will be a solid option going forward.

Flareon is much easier to obtain, and on top of that, flamethrower is actually the preferred movesets in most cases.

I'm still farming Eevees to try for a FS/FT Flareon, and more Vapes at the same time.
Flareon would be a great counter for Articuno, which takes NVE damage from Articuno's ice moves instead of SE for Golem. Also, should the legendary birds get Steel Wing as someone speculated here, Flareon also resists it.

The new meta is more dps oriented than ever before meaning that Flareon is even more obviously the best fire mon.

Charizard ain't far off from Flareon in DPS in FuNKyShO's fire Pokemon comparison video.

Yeah, his videos are great. Often showcases how minor differences in IV's really are, which I appreciate. Good to se Charizard at least holding his own, even if Flareon is still a bit better.

But my overall point stands. In the old system, the difference between FS/PH Flareons and Charizard were negligible. In the new system with focus maximum dps impact in raids, the difference is still small, but overall more significant in that it might make the difference between killing the boss in time and timing out.

Although difference in IVs are negligible, there is still a difference. His Charizard had 7 attack IVs, compared to Flareon's 14, which can make a difference in breakpoints.
But I agree the 23 attack stat difference is too big to be ignored.

True, unless you cannot get off that last charge move before being KOd.
