People on the same teams couldn't follow proper etiquette before, this will never happen. I think too many people just don't get it. Last night after a raid I was working on taking down the gym because the Pokemon had been in there 8 days. When I was on the third round, one of the guys with us goes "Ha! I just berries them up!" I just laughed and shook my head. Whatever dude, I was trying to do them a favor. That's cool tho, they can sit in there for however many more days.
New Gym Protocol
I've been trying lately to live by a new set of gym protocols. I think overall they are a pretty good idea and if everyone followed them more people would be able to get some coins back daily from their gyms, and possibly benefit more from friendly gyms. Let me know what you think.
1.) If you have time to knock out any opposing teams pokemon that are over 8 hours 20 minutes (50 coins worth of time) please do so.
2.) Don't knock out any pokemon that hasn't been in for at least 10 minutes.( give someone at least a coin for their trouble). I personally like to wait until at least an hour if i have that time in the area.
3.) When putting a pokemon in a gym place in ones you would want candy back from and that others will benefit from getting candies when feeding a berry. I've been leaving my extra larvitars and mareep. Though I haven't tested putting a larvitar in the same gym with a Tyranitar. If that works ideally the best gym to berry would be mareep, flaffy, Ampharos, larvitar, pupitar, Tyranitar.
I just feel if we all follow rules like this when we can, people wouldn't get stuck with pokemon in gyms for days and everyone would get coins. This new update only benefits Niantic not having to give us more free stuff.

Has this candy thing been confirmed? I haven't received a single candy yet for feeding and I'm out grinding my berries away til I error out (at least 2 or 3x a day).
I'm thinking it was a hoax put forth by people to keep their mons in gyms during the first few days so they didn't have to visit 20 places a day to keep them in.
Another confirm...I think the odds are 1%. I got a Chancey candy once...only 1 time. Maybe 150 feedings so far.
Even if they want to get knocked out, I think I am so starved for stardust that I want to just berry everything honestly...(I'm at 600k+). Not comfortable to go below 500k.
They should raise it up to +50 dust like the sample videos.
Whenever I have time, I kick whoever's been there for over 8 hours. They left me to collect too and even left one of my mons to stay for another day after my other one got kicked out from a gym that was very close by the other one. Hopefully I'll have enough time to go around and kick some more, I can see some gyms here that have gone stale.
I can't help myself, if I see a red or yellow gym I have to change it to the right color, LOL! I do try to be respectful, though. If I see a rival kick me out after I just took over a gym, I will make sure they don't get a lot of coins. In other cases, like a family with kids happily getting in a gym, I will leave it alone until they can collect. If I see a gym with hungry mon, I assume they wanna go home and will be glad to send them!
It is a strange system, though, what was Niantic thinking...
