US trainers playing abroad

My significant other and I have been getting an "Unable to authenticate. Please try again." error for the past 2+ days. We are US-based trainers traveling in France and are living wifi to wifi (i.e. we have no international data plan and aren't going to buy SIM cards). We log in using PTC.

When we first arrived, everything was going swimmingly in the airport using the free wifi - we caught a Mr.Mime while waiting for our checked bags! However, that authentication error started appearing once we got on our lodging's wifi network. Any tips for resolving this issue? Since it worked in the airport, I assume airplane mode + wifi isn't the problem. A 2+ day outage for PTC seems too long to be something on Niantic's end, so I wonder if anyone here has any insights into what's going on. Thanks in advance!

I live in France (Paris) and I confirm that I've not been able to login to PoGo since the past 2 days while connected to my Wifi network. I need to switch to 4G/LTE, login to PoGo, then I switch back to Wifi and it works this way.

No problem here (france) with WiFi nor PTC.

you made sure you are correctly registered to the WiFi Network did you ?
(the icon isn't enough, you have to use an app that requires data)

Buy some SIM cards, they're $50 and great for emergencies.
