Training exclusive pokemon

I just caught my first Dragonite with the perfect attacking moveset. However its IVs are low (either 55% or 53%) and CP is 638. So I figured this Dragonite would be perfect for training up gyms, I know training gyms has been nerfed recently but based on Niantic's back and forth approach I figure it won't be long until training is powered back up. What do the rest of you think and what pokemon (if any) do you like to use ro train friendly gyms?

Dragonite is not as good for training as it first might seem. Dragonite's strength comes from its insanely high stats (hence the ridiculous CP). This is why it's able to beat everything else. However, if you reduce its level to be half the CP of the defender, Dragonite is suddenly not so great anymore. Basically, best training Pokémon are strong Pokémon that have relatively low CP, like Wigglytuff. Dragonite is the complete opposite and in my opinion is not that great of a prestiger. I thought this too first when I caught a 600 CP Snorlax, but when I trained with it I realized that it had close to no damage and was a horrible prestiger.

So naturally high CP Pokémon are great for attacking and defending, but relatively weak for prestiging.

It's not weak at training prestige. It's just not great.

a 600 CP Dragonite is ballpark same (different mix) as a 600 CP Wigglytuff.

However neither has a Stab + Type Advantage on DPS often. And especially neither has a Double Type Adv. (Ala a Grass Pokemon prestiging against an Water)

Wigglytuff is perfect for training gyms. She is low CP and packs a punch especially pound and HB or pound and Play rough. Dragonite is meant to take down enemy gyms.

Tried it for myself today when I had a spare 5 mins. It took out 2 1200+CP Gyarados in a local Instinct gym. Thanks for advice everyone but I have my answer now :)
