What do you get for feeding allies?

Feeding an allied pokemon that isn't your own at a gym only gives you a very small amount of stardust. It seems to me that the most optimal thing (for a lvl 6 gym of your own team) to do would be to not feed allied pokemon, so that they get booted off more quickly, allowing you to put your own pokemon on the gym. Am I wrong?

stardust and the chance to get candy for the mon you feed.

Feed a snorlax = chance to get a snorlax candy. besides, what else are we going to do with our useless nanaberries?

If you put pokemon inside gym, you can feed other pokemons that were alrdy in.

They will fight before your pokemon and will be dropped out before you no matter if you feed them or not.
You still get dust and chance to get candys.

Makes sense?

What is the "chance of candies"? How is it determined? Because the amount of dust you get is insignificant.

Better than the jack-squat I was getting tossing the berries...

I traded a Nanab berry for a Dratini candy and some stardust. That's a really good deal.

Don't looks high, I've fed 20 berries and still no candies. But anyway even small chance is better than just discarding berries.
