playing PoGo when running - BIG MISTAKE

I am gutted. I did quite a bit of running in the summer- I found I couldn't play and run at the same time so I just put my phone in my belt and ran so that I could hatch eggs.
Now I've looked at my Dex for the first time in ages. It turns out that I have run past all the top tier Pokemon- Snorlax, Lapras, Dragonite, Executor, Gyarados! And missed catching them! And I don't have any of them because I've only seen them once!
Utterly gutted. And puzzled, since it seems that the top tier Pokemon only appear when I'm not looking!!!
Anyone else had anything similar?
Anyone manage to run and play at the same time?

Running past Pokemon doesn't count as an interaction in the pokedex, seeing these pokemon in gyms however does count as an interaction. This has happened to me with Charizard & Dragonite which I don't have and have never encountered.

Wow, OK! Maybe I don't need to feel so gutted, but it seems a bit strange. Under Snorlax in my dex, it says "Seen: 1, Caught: 0". So that means that I encountered 1 Snorlax in a gym and I didn't run past a Snorlax without catching it?

It means you've seen it in a gym, unless you click on the wild pokemon it doesn't count as an interaction :)

This is why I have the Pokemon GO Plus on at all times.

Yeah, as others have said, Pokemon that you have not yet seen in your pokedex get +1 view when you see them in a Gym for the first time now.

This first started around the time of the 0.41.2/1.11.2 update in case you are wondering why you never noticed it sooner.
