Metapod now tier 1 defender?

It seems that some people are speculating that Chansey is going to be a great defender in the new gym system, because they believe motivation will work like prestiging, with maximum motivation loss only being delivered by attackers with lower CP than the defender.

If this is true, doesn't that make Metapod the new Blissey?

Metapod is quite weak, his defensive stats are worse than kazam's. How is he a good defender?

No. He will get crushed.

By which pokemon that has half of the Metapod's CP? Sure, he'll get crushed by anything decent, but (according to the speculation I'm referring to*) to cause him to lose maximum motivation, you'll have to use an attacker with some fraction of the Metapod's CP. If you use anything strong, you'll have to beat the Metapod like 50 times, picking a whole new team each time, etc.

*I do not believe this speculation that beating down a mon's motivation will be like prestiging, where the lower the CP of the attacker, the greater the motivation loss. The whole point of this tongue-in-cheek thread was to point out the flaw in the logic that Chansey is somehow going to be an important defender in the new meta. I guess my point went over the heads of a lot of the responders, though.

And Chansey will still be very easy to beat.

I cannot believe the motivation system will act like prestiging. If yes, the only point of having the strongest attackers are for raid battles

I could see a kind of split system where you can do prestige type takedowns alongside overpowering and trashing your opponent. If it is better to use the prestigers we all already have instead of actual attackers then I never need to open another egg ever again.

First chansey and now metapod. Soon someone will say shuckle will be a great defender.

If motivation is like prestiging, then think of beating chansey just like prestiging a blissey. If, IF, motivation decreases more for low level attacking high level, and decreases less when the CPs are close (or attackerCP>defenderCP). Then chansey (500s176d) compares to Blissey(510s229d) because you will either blow through chansey a few times with a high CP mon, decreasing it's motovation by small amounts, or try and go under chanseys CP, and remove chunks of CP. Just like prestiging, but thats what made it hard to prestige Blissey (full 1000), you need a high level mon, which brings you closer to her CP.
