I'm in search of a good fire-type, as I live in a grass biome and the number of Exeggutors at gyms is overwhelming. Here is what I have:

Arcanine w/ 84% IVs and Fire Fang/Flamethrower

Typhlosion w/ 80% IVs and Ember/Overheat

Flareon w/ 87% IVs and Fire Spin/Fire Blast

I've yet to get a Charizard, but I am very close. Also, I could try to evolve to another Flareon, but have not found a decent IV Evee recently. Interested to hear your opinion below; personally I lean towards Typhlosion because of its moveset (and he/she looks sick af). Thanks for your help.

Edit: as far as a fire-type goes, sound like Arcanine is my best-bet, with Typhlosion coming in second? To take down Exeggutors, though, I should go for a Scizor. Thanks for the help so far! Feel free to weigh in more below.

I find Arcanines work well as they are a bit more tanky thank Flareons (glass cannons). Have to find what works for you for dodging etc.

Also though they are changing STAB and Effective type bonuses. You might want to look at getting a good attacking Pinsir with double bug moveset. It will be more effective than fire. Again though you will need to be good at dodging but the bonus to double effectiveness is going to be big.

I've gotten good at dodging with my Dragonite. He's the only one I've been using lately because he's good at prestiging against Snorlax. I assume dodging is pretty much the same for other Pokémon?

I like the quick bug attacks like Fury Cutter and charge move X-Scissor as you can attack quickly and dodge in between. You can even use X-Scissor charge move and still dodge ZH or Confusion if that is what the Eggy has. Dodging is key vs hard hitting Psychic types.

Bug moves are great for attacking into Eggs.

What are the CP of those fire types?

Arcanine I was using before the nerf, 2187. Typhlosion (never powered up) sits at 1719, and Flareon that I've never powered up is at 1629.

I vote Arcanine because he can best double as a defender. The Typhlosion is more than capable of doing any task you might need a fire pokemon for. The only no is Flareon, as fire blast is strictly inferior to his other charge moves.

If you want to take down Eggy, you're going at it wrong. The most effective Exeggutor counter are bugs - Eggy is doubly weak to bugs. Scyther, Pinsir, and Scizor with bug moves shred eggy. Scizor is particularly deadly, since he resists both grass and psychic, as well as eggy being double weak to bug.
Fire still works, but just as well as flying, and a bit better than ice, dark, ghost, or poison. Many of the last group are weak to psychic.

Yes I forgot about Scizor as both mine came out with bad movesets. Thanks for the reminder. Scizor is a beast. And with the new TMs I think my 96% one might be in store for a moveset update!

Scizor is such a beast!

Ok, I will continue my quest to find a good IV scyther. Just wish I wasn't so stupid and didn't transfer my hatched scyther a couple months ago.

What moves? Bp actually does more damage than fc against Eggy. There was a thread about it on here a few days ago.

Oddly enough, I prefer Butterfree...I love bug bite, and bug buzz is by far the best bug move IMO.

Also this. :)
If you're still looking for a Fire type I stand by my answer though

If I can get a flareon with better moves than I'll use it.

That is insane! even with the event you don't have a charizard? I personally think those are all good, have gotten 3 Typhlosions and ofcourse 2 were solar beam. I agree with the Typhlosion statement too, Just wish i had a better one.

Like no joke I think about 20 Charmanders have run away from me, I have about 100 candy though. I've been busy lately and haven't had time to hunt much too.

Typhlosion with Solar Beam might make a good defender in the new system.

I'd go for Flareon and/or Arcanine. They're stronger than Typhlosion; both your specific pokemon as the entire species.
Your Typhlosion might do more dps than Arcanine with the charge move, but Arcanine does (quite some) more dps with the quick move.
Arcanine is a lot tankier too.

But honestly, your Typhlosion will probably do the job well too, so if you prefer it just go ahead and level him.
It's the worst choice out of those 3 you already have though.

Hi guys! I was wondering what do you think about Houndoom as an Exeggutor counter?
