Team work, yeah right!

Just a cautionary tale that I hope changes when the rework happens any day now!

This morning's pokejog began very familiar to all the others. The 2 Gyms on my trail had been taken back to Valor Control. Both of them level 7, which isn't too bad. I can take down a 7 pretty quickly.

As I was beginning my jog I noticed a couple walking and playing pokemon. I figured they were valor players, since they didn't stop and gym. BTW, I just so happened to be wearing my 1 Instinct shirt, so they knew I was what I was up to.

So then I finish my first loop and come back to the Gym. I take it down from a 7 to a 6, then 6 to a 4. I take another lap around the park to refresh potions.

I get back to the Gym and I finish off the Gym. I install my highest CP mon (3200+ Nite) and they proceed to add 2 mons in with me.

Thing is, they were both high level pokemon players that could have easily join in with me to take down those Gyms faster, but instead they kept walking!

That really grinded my gears. I spent lots of potions taking that bad boy down and those two schmoes just jumped in after I did all the work.

Again, they knew from the moment they saw me I was an Instinct player like they were.

I guess they figured that it wasn't worth it because that Gym would be taken back by Valor eventually (it was after about 10 minutes when a neighborhood valor player drove up in her car to take down the Gym.)

Yesterday, I was taking down a L9 gym. Got it to L1 and a different team jumped in to take the last level out then dropped in his critter because that person had priority. ya, easy enough to give that critter a beating and put my own in... but cmon. really. If there were only some way to hold players accountable for their actions.

I think he did ok: put mon, collect, leave. Then you, the one who did the full work take the gym again and build it up if you want.
The alternative would have been to wait for you to leave and take the gym for him. Would have been better?

I probably would have went up to you just because of the shirt, but that being said, there are some gyms I simply don't touch because of the high turnover. If there is an open slot I might throw something in, but sometimes I don't even do that. Can't waste potions on a worthless gym...might waste some potions to make a friend tho...

I thought this was going to go another way. What I expected was going to happen was these guys were going to wait until there were one or two pokemon left in the gym, jump in and quickly take those one or two out, and then put their pokemon in before you had a chance to, forcing you to additionally prestige up to a level 4/5 gym.

No, I'd rather they stay out of your way, let you put the first pokemon in, and then prestige their way in rather than let you do most of the work taking down the gym AND forcing you to prestige. I've done the work of taking down a gym only to have someone from my team jump in at the last moment, take it down to zero, and get to put the first pokemon in.

If anything, these players were being considerate to you.

What difference does it make who takes down the gym if you're same team? As long as there are no more than 3 players, it opens up 3 spots and all can get in without having to prestige. Or am I missing something?

The gym would have come down faster if we went in together and attacked at the same time. Instead of me using 20 potions of not own inventory, we could have each probably used 6. Not sure if those are the exact numbers, but you get the gist.

I wasn't turned off that they joined me, only that they didn't offer to help.

I wonder if they didn't want to interfere? I'm surprised why PoGo players aren't more social (I wear an Articuno shirt sometimes in a popular poke park, but no one has apparently noticed). If Niantic wants to force group play, they may kill their own game ;)

See that video posted on youtube with some aggressive Valor player sitting on someone's car that was later removed from SR?

I actually hope they make gyms less confrontational with the gym rework...Make gyms so everyone can benefit or even NPCs.

Sure, it's nice to have dominant areas, but everyone is different and some people take this game WAY TOO SERIOUSLY where I could honestly see fights.

Other than a nod or hi, I don't think I've ever tried to really engage anyone. Too many crazies in the world.

So true. My 11-year-old son was once confronted by a grown man and accused of sniping (they were both prestiging the gym). Seriously? Get a life! No wonder he doesn't want to play anymore, although he says that's not the reason.

I often feel the need to hide (or look around me to see if anyone notices) when attacking an enemy gym, sadly.

Maybe I should spoof instead?

Seriously just kidding!!!

I got sniped many times, one time, I was prestiging against a Blissey on the bottom and a few easier targets past it...After getting like 4k+, I tried to put a mon and like, what the heck, someone just sniped my spot!

... Turned out it was the wife who thought she got 5k herself after beating 1 Blissey on the bottom...

... was waiting in line at an amusement park with the kids while she didn't want to ride the ride...

I've never had a negative confrontation. There's actually a group of instinct players I run into every now and then who love teaming up with me, but since it's hotter I jog in the morning now. Honestly rarely see anybody else playing.

I suspect many trainers will create many accounts to form a "team".

I suspect spoofers will survive. They always do. And any teamwork requirements will only benefit them.
I almost always play alone. The two people who I had played with before no longer do after the spoofers took over and my niece who got me into pogo lives far away

I agree, I'm afraid that this gym re work will actually benefit spoofers even more. Disappointed (again) with Niantic from what I've heard so far.. maybe it won't, but I doubt it. I don't see how all the things I've heard wouldn't benefit them.

When I see somebody playing near a gym I leave them alone. And look at that gym's prestige to see if it's being attacked or trained. If it's my team's gym being taken down I'll go find another one, and if it's prestiged I'll wait for my turn. Though I remember that one time last summer when someone was fighting a rival gym I had no interest in, I made a quick work of it and strolled away. That was before empty gyms were made to wait for players that beat them.

I also like to take a bite or two out of rival towers if I feel like they've been there for too long or there's someone with a bot-like username.

There's a realistic chance they didn't see your shirt (I don't always look at people's shirts right away) and saw the gym being battled and didn't help out in case it was a player from a different team (in this case; mystic) taking it down. It's a 50/50 chance it's their team and they might've been playing it safe in case it wasn't
