Gym rework, what about Gen 3

Everyone is talking about the upcoming gym rework and possibly saving evolutions, candies and dust until then. But what about waiting for the possible changes coming with Gen 3?

Gen 2 was released approx 6 months after Gen 1 and by Niantics' interviews and announcements, it's very likely Gen 3 will be out in August. So, with gym rework likely to happen toward end of June, there's ~1 month worth of time until Gen 3 is possibly released. And with Gen 3, shouldn't we expect changes to movesets, CP calculations, etc., etc. that would further change the meta?

So my question is, if you have waited so long and saved evolutions, candies and dust for gym rework, why wouldn't you wait another month to see what changes Gen 3 will bring before pressing the trigger?

Very wishful. I agree its possible gen3 could be released this year. It would be right on schedule for a major quarterly update. The truth is we have no way of knowing. Waiting forever isn't really fun either. Play for today! That being said I do hoard candies and only evolve once in a while if the IVs are high or its maxed wild level.

Rushing out the second generation was a massive mistake by Niantic. Blissey (and Tyranitar) ruined the gym metagame, which was more fun and diverse with only first-generation species. RIP Lapras, Slowbro, Poliwrath, Venusaur and even Exeggutor. I hope they take a longer time to release the third generation.

Are you serious? Do you really think gen2 was rushed out? On a game with no more content than catching and hatching and gyms already full of cheaters and bots and after 7 months of a single generation do you think something like gen2 release with Blissey and Tyranitar ruined the gym metagame?

I agree with the nerf of mon like Poliwrath, Lapras and Exeggutor but as time passed and people reached higher level it was just a matter of time that CP as gym placement became the king, this is nothing related to gen2 release but to the actual gym placement system. Instead of Blissey and Tyranitar we were sawing only gyms full of only Dragonite, Rhydon and Gyarados with some Vaporeon.

May I ask when do you started playing? Because for most of the players that started on day1 and played on a daily basis, even casually, gen2 was even late, nothing close to rush out.

I started playing the day the game was released in Singapore (early August). The day before the second generation were officially announced, I was level 31 and my regional Pokedex was only missing five entries.

Spoofers struggled to make an impact on gyms in my area, as there were so many active high-level non-spoofers that even the strongest gym would only last half a day. Although CP did matter, Exeggutor was among the most common defenders, alongside Dragonite, Snorlax, Gyarados and of course, Vaporeon, while I would also see the occasiobal Lapras, Slowbro, Venusaur, Poliwrath and Rhydon. The dodge bug, errors due to GPS drift and other technical issues were annoying, but gyms were still playable (and fun).

Blissey made all the above problems far worse. Niantic released the second generation without considering how Blissey would break an already-flawed gym system (or trying to fix said gym system). Remember the slower attacks (which they quickly reversed)? Having new species to collect was fun for a short while, but I wish Niantic had first focused on the deeper issues with the game.

I will wait until the gym rework first, when it comes, if I see that I don't need more defenders and attackers and I am fine like this I will keep saving, but keep in mind that it is very likely that gym rework includes limitation on species per gym, no more gyms with multiple Dragonite, Blissey, Gyarados, Rhydon and Tyranitar, this will lead to the need of diversification and powering up new mon.

So if this comes true it will be very hard to wait until gen3 in order to use that candies and dust...Hope they do a dust event soon after gym rework because it is already a very limited source as it is, imagine you need to spend on a hole new team, powering up like 6-8 new mon.

Don't you think the gym rework (and other changes?) could usurp development time necessary for a major content release as well? I understand Niantic has a small staff, so I would not hold my breath on Gen 3 to quickly follow an overhaul of the game.... or if they really want to go for "shock and awe" maybe Gen3 would come out WITH gym changes/rework!
