Absolutely agree. Esp point #3. I only power up my best attack (quick) movesets pokemons. Would transfer or leave it if evolved into bad movesets. Defensive pokemons are useful only when not controlled by AI. What's the point to power up a slow moveset pokemons in which every move is predictable at this moment? (And also not able to dodge)
Ultimate Debate: Power up ATK pokemon or DEF pokemon
I know this question have been out there for a while, but no conclusion yet. let's debate, and leave your opinion down below.
Side ATK: Power up ATK pokemon, as it saves you time destroying opponent gyms. Powering up DEF pokemon not good because
1. ATK pokemon can also defend gym: CP can get you high slot, and moveset not important as a deligent attacker will take down it anyways. Might as well power up ATK pokemon to save your own time.
2. DEF pokemon depends on defending mechanism, which may be changed in the future.
3. When PVP comes out, ATK mechanism rules.
Side DEF: Power up DEF pokemon because:
1. taking down gym is easy, no need to power up ATK pokemon.
2. High CP pokemon bad for training.

I am living in Hong Kong, which is a densely populated city. No gyms in here can hold more than a day. Even a level 10 one filled with Dragonites and snorlax. My 3100cp Dragonite got destroyed in matters of minutes. With current mechanism in favorite of the attackers, i don't think it's worthy to waste stardusts to power up def pokemons, at least in my area.
LOL if you can really do that then hats off to you, but it's not something even 6 3000cp+ Dragonites can do. And I don't dodge quick attacks. And Dragonites destroy Arcanines just as fast or faster than Vaporeons. Not to mention all the others in the lineup.
EDIT: Did some calculations it's just not possible with 3 Vaporeons. You will not make it through all 10 levels with 3 Vaporeons. Even if you could, assuming you are level 33 so your units are 34.5. And I used level 30 as gym defenders. I am assuming a general mix of 2 Arcanines, 2 Vaporeons, 2 Exeggutors, 2 Snorlax, and 2 Dragonites in a level 10 gym. Simulation calculates that it will take,
2 * 30s - time to take down 2 Arcanines
+2 * 50s - Vaporeons
+2 * 40 - Exeggutors
+2 * 50s - Snorlaxes
+2 * 50s - Dragonites
+60s - to use max potions and make lineup to go again. To bring a level 10 gym down, you will need to do
(60+100+80+100+100+60) = 500s - level 10
470s - level 9 and so on...
+440+410+360+360+310+260+210+100 = 3420 seconds, that's almost AN HOUR! Not to mention you won't even be able to go through all 10 levels.
TL;DR - Don't know why you are making things up.
I don't know why you give more credit on Dragonite. Even the Dragonite that have 3k+ cp it still easy to take down even easier than Exeggutor and Poliwrath and I don't do math, I just speculated from what I ever did and also I dodge everything even quick attack. Btw I'm lv32. I wish I could take some screenshot but I don't atk gym anymore.
Btw If there are Arcanine and Vaporeon in that Gym why am I supposed to atk other mon instead of farming only 1 mon to reduce prestige (also save a lot of potion 5+ times per one used).
I was responding to your claim of 3 Vaporeons is enough for attacking and you can take down a level 10 gym with them in less than 30 minutes. So it's for attacking, and nothing is more efficient on attacking than Dragonites, except against Lapras.
I only put Snorlax and Lapras for defense in gyms.
Sometimes it might FEEL like 30 minutes, but it's longer. MATH never lies.
Both.
My attack team has 1 snorlax, 1 vaporeon, 1 exeggutor, 1 venusaur, 1 victreebel, 3 lapras, 2 arcanine, all with good attacker moves. Most are powered to the max, because the stronger they are, the more gym defenders I can take out in one go.
The defense team is a mix of different snorlax, vaporeon, lapras, dragonite, exeggutor, and a lone muk. They need to be >2200 to be reasonable sure they are not kicked out first, so they are powered too, and since my attack team got in place, most stardust goes to the defense team. Which is also growing, poliwrath and slowbro coming, and more of everything.
I also have prestiging teams at different cp levels, fx. 1500, 1200 and 1000. These are never powered. I just make sure they hit reasonably close to the desired limit when evolving.
