Special item strategy going forward?

So I have a surplus of special items -- more than I care to use, even though I like to have 2 of each mon.

Those who know future generations, should I hold on to these items for evolutions down the road? Or use them now with a Lucky Egg on for the XP?

I think most won't see use except maybe sunstone. Better see other comments before doing anything!!

Niantic completely messed this up due to their Gen 1 screw yup. This is tricky because they do not have evolution stones items from Gen1 (fire, water, thunder, leaf, moon). Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Richu, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Clafable, Wiggleytuff (All of witch we can catch in the wild).

But here comes Gen2 that have evolution items and they were implemented (metal coat, sun stone, kings rock, dragon scale, up-grade) This takes up bag space and we cannot catch their forms in the wild

Now what happens when Gen4 comes along and its time for Murkrow, Misdreavus, Porygon Z are we going to need stones to waste more bag space?
