Poliwrath - Power Up or Save Dust?

Hey all. I have a defensive CP 1563 Poliwrath with Bubble/Ice Punch and 93.3% IV. Should i really spend lots of stardust powering untill level 30 or def not?. This poke have some nice stats and high defender tier. I am actually level 30 with 190k dust (after i reached lvl 30 and powered my elite pokemon).

If you are already done with your elite Pokémon, I'd say go for it if you need another defender. Poliwrath is a great defender and Bubble / Ice Punch is a good moveset. Does not quite reach the damage of Hydro Pump, but covers its weaknesses better.

I'm surprised how difficult people seem find dodging bubble and I've been very satisfied with my Poliwrath with Bubble / Hydro Pump. I don't regret leveling it up to level 30. My Poliwrath has 91% IV's and at level 30 it has 2126 CP.

Despite being a great defender (Bubble is a tremendous attack for defennse) I think its kind of useless to power up a Poliwrath. Why ?

Well, no matter how much powered up the Poli is, he will likely be 1st at almost any gym, hence, he will always be kicked in 10 minutes.

Poliwrath is a nice mon, but his low CP really makes them useless in the current meta.

Yes, thats my preoccupation. I will need to spend lots of dust (from 22 to 30) and it will still low cp.

Totally Depends on your Local Area

A level 30 Poliwrath will be about 2100 CP based on IV

If a "10 Gym" in your area 2100 ends up in spots 4-7. Power it up.

If a "10 Gym" in your area 2100 ends up in spots 8-10 pass.

I've powered up 2 of those and dont regret it based on my area

Yeah, that might be the case in big cities, but in rural areas like the one where I live in it's not. Firstly, there aren't many level 10 gyms and they get taken down pretty quickly. There aren't very many high level players (I think I'm the highest one at 32 in our town) and people don't have very strong Pokémon. A 2,1k Poliwrath will often be closer to the top than to bottom in my area.

I don't know what its like in big cities but many people make it sound like 3k CP Dragonites are only ones worth it to put in a gym. At least there's one good thing about rural areas I guess...

It might look like a "location" thing right now, but it's not. No matter if you are in a small rural area, there are a lot of better CPs 'mons out there. Eventually they all will get to those "loner" gyms, and that's when the Poli will become useless.

At trainer level 29 my 93 poliwrath is 2145 I think. I don't regret it one bit, probably my favorite. I love knowing people are like "damn I didn't expect it to be THAT tough" and they are saving their stronger Pokemon for later in the gym too, so it works out well.

As others have said, it may depend on your area. I have an 89 and 93, my 89 has been stuck in a gym for a couple of weeks so I haven't been able to power it for a few levels.

Poliwrath is amazing. Don't stop powering it up ever.

My Poliwrath is only 84% with the same moves as yours. However, I am level 34 and I have powered mine up to level 35.5 so it has over 2,300 CP. I will never stop powering this critter up.

The bigger it gets the better.

People always talk about not powering creatures up past level 30, but honestly by the time you hit the higher levels (33, 34, 35) you will be looking to power up all your defenders to the highest levels possible.

I can see not powering up attackers past level 30, but defenders need to go as high as possible.

Polliwrath and Slowbro just get better and better as they get higher.

If you're gonna be dumb, you've gotta be tough. Slowbro looks as dumb as it gets, toughness to match.

I have some heavily contested high traffic gyms where I live and I love putting a poliwrath in there. Ill typically put my dragonites and high CP mons in gyms that are far away. Its easy to revive the poli and stick him back since the gyms are closeby.

I don't get it why most of ppl think this pokemon is that good. When i fought with it with my Gyrados cp 1600s (poli has 2200s), I didn't even have a hard time to win and I lost only 1/4 of my hp. It not only once that I have encounter this pokemon.
