I'd rather they take out Goldeen, Krabby, Ekans, and Diglett and still have access to Magikarp, Rattata, and Pidgey. At least they got rid of Spearow.

I agree. Magikarp was one of the better 2K hatches because it gave you the best chance of a high IV Gyarados. It seems that the only thing positive about 2k and 5k eggs now is the dust and XP.
