80% Poliwrath Bubble/Ice Punch

I have a 622 CP Poliwrath with Bubble and Ice Punch and 80% IVs. I am wanting one to make as a defender and I know you want Bubble for sure, but I am iffy on Ice Punch.

Where I live Poliwag are hard to come by. I have a 744 Poliwhirl with 84.4% IVs and 94 Poliwag candy. Should I wait and evolve the Poliwhirl and take the chance on getting a Bubble/Hydro Pump or Submission, or just go ahead and power up the one that I have? I normally would have probably done so, but it's low CP is holding me back because I don't want to dump all my candy and stardust into it at the moment.

Thanks for any help.

THE MOVESET IS GOOD, at least as good as hydropump, maybe even better since you will mostly be attacked by plants/dragonite, Ice attack is really cool even without stab.

Problem is 80% IV, poliwrath is tough to maintain in a gym since he is often in the first slots of a strong gym. Having only 80% IV leaves him with even less CP
Plus 622CP atm means a lot of dust to spent.

I would say power him up if you have a lot of dust, wait otherwise.

Don't bother, his CP is too low. Evolve the other one and hope he gets the same moveset, since it's the best defensively.

Don't do it. Evolve the other and hopefully you get the moveset that is an "A" ranked offensive and defensive moveset. I have a 95% with Bubble and Hydro Pump and it is super fun to use. Try for that. Good luck!

I agree that the CP is way too low. Do you have any decent Poliwags? I know it will take longer but a decent level polowag with good IV is your best option in the long run.

As already mentioned, moveset is good for defender. Most of them, luckily, are good for Poliwrath.

If the candy is so rare for you it might be not so worth to evolve second one, in terms of IV it's basically same, however you risk getting mud shot\anything Poliwrath, which would be quite useless as defender, and as attacker, Poliwrath is nothing so much special, you can stick to water gun\Hudropump Vaporeon and get better results.

It's all up to you in the end, but to brin your poliwrath to lvl 20 you probably need about 40 candy, while your poliwhirl require 100 candy to get to same position. So if candy are in shortage, it's more efficient to use first one. Spending 100 candy to get something like squishier vaporeon doesn't sound too exciting, and you have good chance to end with one.

Poliwrath is much better than its CP implies, yet having lower CP than other tier 1.5 defenders means it often is at the bottom of a well stacked gym. So raising it IMO is more based on what other top tier defending options you have.

You want at least 10 2.4K+ defenders for end game IMO: so how many of them do you have on track already? Do some calculations and see if you have dust to spare for a Poliwrath that would only be 2.2K with 100iv at trainer level 30. Also consider that Vaporeon is in the same defensive tier as Poliwrath but will have like 2.5K CP (with 100 iv) at trainer level 30 instead of 2.2K.

So if you want to max the CP of 10 defenders, you are better off raising multiple Vaporeons & Exeggutors instead of using the dust on a Poliwrath. And of course stuff like Snorlax, Lapras and Dragonite, but those are definitely candy constrained, not dust constrained.

I'd like to have a Poliwrath with that moveset, but that would just be way too much stardust for me to invest. (but I'm always out of dust, and have other projects going) I have a 91 IV one with Bubble/Hydro Pump that I powered up to 2145 CP. It's a really nice Pokemon as he deals a ton of damage, but as other posters said his lower max CP of other defenders puts him pretty far down the rung in a high level gym (and these are the only ones you usually hold on to for a more than a day or two), so usually just stick a Vaporeon or Exeggutor in those to get to the top or close. I never use him as an attacker since Vaporeons quick attack is so fast, it's much easier to not get caught in a long quick move and unable to dodge. His role is basically, I stick him in as the lone defender of a gym I just took over.

If you think that pokemon isnt what you want, then wait and evolve next one and if still not what want, then continue with ice punch one.

Poliwraths are one of the toughest defenders in the game, much better than Vaporeon of the same level, imho, even though it'll be a few hundred CP less. I have several which are 2100+ and they're rarely at the bottom level of a gym.

Yours, unfortunately, is just too low CP to be worth powering up. On the other hand, it'll be great for training. I'm considering evolving a Poliwag at that level for that very reason, although Poliwags are rather plentiful where I live (I've caught of them about 42% of the number of Pidgeys I caught, for comparison).

Thanks for all the replies.

I think I'm going to hold off on this one for now. I currently have 104 Poliwag candy that I've been saving up and 212030 stardust.

My other options at the moment are a 744/84.4% Poliwhirl, a 435/84.4% Poliwag, a 433/82.2% Poliwag, a 429/80% Poliwag, and a 367/80% Poliwag.

The only other Pokemon that I am currently in the process of powering up are a 97.8% Vaporeon with the best defensive moves, an Exeggutor defender, and an Arcanine defender that are all powered as high as my level and or candy will allow, so I am not needing the dust for anything else right now.

I think I'm going to evolve the Poliwhirl and hope for the best.

Thanks again.
