Lvl 20 with high IV or wait for a wild one?

I have a couple of rare level 20 Pokemon with high IV's, which were hatched and I wanted to know if I should evolve them or wait and pray for a better one that I catch in the wild?
I am currently level 29 about to hit 30.

From my understanding the highest level hatched egg is set at 20 and they normally have high IV's. The highest level caught in the wild is currently capped at 30 with variable IV's.

The Pokemon in question are if anyone recommends to pick and choose which to evolve and which to wait:
Drantini level 20 with 87% IV: 20 15 10 14
Porygon level 20 with 89% IV: 13 12 15
Larvitar level 20 with 87% IV: 13 12 14
Scyther level 20 with 93% IV: 14 13 15
Rhyhorn level 20 with 84% IV: 14 13 11
Phanpy level 20 with 89% IV: 12 15 13
Abra level 20 with 91% IV: 14 15 12

Machop level 23 with 100% IV: 15 15 15
and a Chansey level 2 (not 20)

Machop to evolve

Scyther to evolve only if you don't have Scizor

Definitely not Rhyhorn (enough time to find a better one before the gen 4 release)

Abra to evolve

Phanpy to evolve only if you don't have Donphan

Larvitar to evolve

Dratini to evolve as long as you don't have a Dragonite with DT

Definitely not Chansey (extremely low level, wait for a better one)

Porygon to evolve, but after the gen 4 release

All your hatches listed above are really great (except for the Chansey) and I would not hesitate evolving them. The trouble is that you're likely to be limited by stardust and candy for powering them up.

So if I were in your situation I would

  • choose to evolve only those which I have candies for evolving AND for powering up
  • Decide between whether I need attackers or defenders more, or a mix of the two, and also consider what would improve/add value to my lineup. For example if I have 2000 dragonites already then obviously I would not evolve the dratini, likewise if havent got a single Tyranitar yet I would surely evolve the Larvitar
  • I would probably prioritise the current metagame mons for evolution and if I am limited by dust I will leave out (for now) Porygon, Abra and Scyther

Thanks for the feedback.

I am still fairly new to the gym scene and have mainly been focused on taking out weak gyms, so I am figuring them out. Honestly I just figured out IV's and move sets so I am trying to build off this.

Beside Rhydon (I caught a level 17 with IV 62% bad move set) and Donphan (I caught level 18 with IV 67-80% and OK move set) I do not own any evolved version of any of those Pokemon.

I have also save all my Stardust since the beginning because I read early on that it was finite and should be save for later on in the game which I assumed was around level 30 since that was the max wild level.
Currently I have almost 850k.

I do not have a ton of candy for any of them either. Most I have just enough to evolve them to their final form or I am in the process of walking them to get enough candy.

Nice! Level 29 with almost a million stardust. Good job being patient. Soon the payoff begins.

I'd evolve the machop first and if you get great moves against the big pink lady, take it to a good prestiging cp. I'd normally advise to then work to get defenders in high gym spots... but if the gym system is going to be overhauled soon, you may want to remain patient just a little bit longer.

If it is happened to me.. I evolve all of your list....
Why not? They have all good-Best IV...

it's painful but honestly i'd not evolve any of them (other than the machop) unless you have the candy to get them to stage 3 evolution and lv.30 - they will be no use in attacking or defending and be a huge candy/dust drain and you will be kicking yourself if you catch something higher level before you max them.

scyther and porygon, go for it to fill your pokedex as the former can be a decent prestiger at low levels and latter isn't good at any level, and that machop could be awesome if you roll a good moveset.

In my experience with rare Pokemon it is really hard to find in the wild anything better than you hatch. I would evolve all of them (not Chansey) if you don't have already a better one of each type. Once you see their moves you can decide what to power up (dragonite and tyranitar are always a must)

The Machop is definitely worth evolving to see if it gets the right moves...Level 23 and 100%, you won't find or hatch a better one.

I evolved and powered up a Lvl 2 Chansey, (just noticed it was my 3rd oldest Mon actually from Sept) and powered it to my maxed level since it was 95% (that and after V-day, I had 500+ candies).

As for the others, if you have stable level 10 gyms in your area and you are in the dominant team there, I'd evolve Dratini, Larvitar, Rhyhorn as defenders assuming you are high enough level/CP to get a decent spot.

I'd evolve the Abra too, but in terms of attacking, you actually can leave most/near all mons at level 20 to attack gyms with so you are in no rush to power up the attackers other than possibly Machamp to deal with Blissey.

I got a wild caught Level 25 C/CC Machamp (Machop caught) and he does fine against nearly all Blisseys paired with a C/SoB eggs to clean up/help.

You're playing like me and I had a mil+ dust before powering up so smart to save...

All that said, a gym rework is supposed to happen this year/"soon" so you may want to wait in case of drastic changes (namely not ranking by CP anymore), but each day not powering up is lost coins IMO so as I level, I keep maxing mons still just to sit higher in gyms. Less costly for me as they were already maxed and have been earning dust/coins already.

Forgot to mention my level 2 Chansey is 82-93% IV and unfortunately I missed the V-Day even so I walked enough candy to evolve it only, plus the 20 I got from hatching it.
