Before you send that mon to the professor.

Something I have started doing with Pokémon I evolve that get a less than desirable moveset, or high CP ones caught in wild with poor movesets that would immediately go to the professor. I now have been using them in a gym battle first, they can be especially useful for training friendly gyms. Once they are knocked out then send them on their way. I used to cringe at seeing a 380 cp Rattata, but I've found a use for them!

Hey, anything that saves a few potions is a good thing when your grinding gyms!

Anyone else do this?

some time ago i use to find my self low on potion/revive quite often. then i started attacking lvl 3 or lower gym exclusively with my Pidgeotto and Raticate i got from lucky egg+evolve spree (with some dodging they are stronger then you may think) now i hardly run out of potion/revive . its a good strategy indeed

Soooo instead of simply disposing of unwanted mons, you rough them up, use them until they've got nothing left to give, and then send them to the glue factory? Harsh. ;-)

(That's actually a really good idea - I wish I could have come up with something so clever!)

Been doing that for awhile. Also works with using them as temp gym defenders if you know that there's stronger players on other teams around. You don't have to use the extra pots and revive on a defender that you know is going to get kicked out fast.
Also, this works much better now that you can take 6 pokemons into training instead of just one. So you can use 6 pokemon of low cp that you're about to transfer and get ~50-100 exp of one train run.
