Raid Review: November 24, 2023

Welcome to Raid Review, where we take a look at the current raid rotation in Pokemon Go in order to see how valuable the current candidates, so that we can see what's worth your precious raid passes and what should generally be ignored! This is an ongoing series for Gamepress where we break down the proceedings into three-to-four different sections and work out the top choices for each, with consideration given to PvP and PvE alike. 

Terrakion

Terrakion is considered to be one of the better Legendary Pokemon in the game in raid terms. It's a great Rock Type attacker, but more important than that it's a top-tier Fighting Type attacker, dwarfing most Shadow Pokemon rivals with ease, though it does need an Elite TM if caught outside of special events. This ability to pull double-duty makes Terrakion an amazing Pokemon that's genuinely worth picking up for anyone still in need of a bit of help, or those who want to shore up their Fighting or Rock Type teams.

For PvP, it's... a bit less impressive. It's unlikely to see real utility outside of some theoretical future cup that just happens to give Terrakin's typing combo a massive advantage. Still, picking it up for raids is generally enough.

Mega Kangaskhan 

Mega Kangaskhan is... definitely a Pokemon. The translation into the Pokemon Go way of doing things was not kind to Mega Kangaskhan, and as a result its actual utility here is extremely limited. It can work for new players who want a Mega Evolution capable of dealing Ground or Fighting Type damage, but it's very underwhelming on all fronts. Still, it's worth picking up for the chance to pick up a regional Pokemon if you haven't already, and the dex-fill is nice as well. 

For PvP, we still can't use Mega Evolutions in the Go Battle League outside of very limited events, so it's not worth a mention in truth.

The Three-Star options here actually aren't terrible. Rhydon evolves into Rhyperior, which works well in raids and has limited utility in the Master League. Pelipper is great in the Great and Ultra Leagues, but probably won't have the best IV Spreads when caught in a raid, so it's best to use them for trade-fodder. Gardevoir is a bit underwhelming, but can work as a Fairy or Psychic attacker for those in need of more help on that front. Finally, Bombirdier is a bit underwhelming, but it can work at least somewhat as a Flying Type attacker thanks to Fly.

Honestly, none of the One-Star offerings are particularly appealing on any front. While select members may have potential in limited formats, most are dex fillers at best. On top of that, they're also all very underwhelming in raids. 

Generally speaking, Terrakion is the shining jewel of this raid-rotation. Its sheer Raid utility is outstanding, and enough to overshadow the fact that it's not great for PvP in general. After that, scoring enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve a Kangaskhan is great for your dex.. but not much else.

Moving on, Gardevoir can fill in if you're desperate for Fairy coverage, Pelipper makes good trade-fodder when trying for a PvP-ready specemine, and Rhydon can help with PvP and PvE alike after it's evolved into Rhyperior.  Beyond those, most of what remains is for dex filling. All-in-all it's not the worst raid rotation, but it's definitely not the best either.
