Tapu Lele Raid Trio Guide

As usual, Mega Gengar has stupid-high DPS that allows it to curb-stomp poor Tapu Lele pretty danged quickly, and it has stellar performance against Focus Blast and Moonblast in particular. However, Confusion and Psyshock severely threaten the traditional Ghost-king, so at times it will drop pretty early in the match. It's also worth mentioning that Mega Gengar not only boosts Ghost Type moves, but Poison Type moves as well.... for however much value that bonus has.

Mega Scizor actually has one of the lowest DPS totals among our recommendations. However, it makes up for this with a great set of resistances and the ability to boost Metagross and Shadow Metagross while on the field, and its DPS is still very trio-worthy, so it's still a very solid choice.

Mega Aggron doesn't have quite the DPS of Mega Scizor if you want a Steel Type Mega Evolution, but it does have outstanding TDO, meaning it will likely stay on the field to boost Metagross/Shadow Metagross for a longer time.... though it really doesn't like Focus Blast.

Mega Beedrill has good DPS, boosts Poison Types, and is cheap... and that's about it. By every metric, it's basically a worse Mega Gengar in this raid.

While it's not Super Effective, Mega Rayquaza's sheer power is enough for this monster to be worth a slot if you happen to lack something better.

Mega Gengar... but worse. While it doesn't have a Psychic weakness, it also doesn't resist Fairy, and is just all-around a worse option. Still, it's not objectively horible, and works as a second-string Mega if need be.

Want to drop Tapu Lele ASAP? Then bring this monster. Shadow Metagross is only weak to Astonish among Tapu Lele's moveset, and that's not really a move to fear to any great degree. As a trade-off, it double-resists Psychic Type moves, resists Moonblast, and only takes 1x damage from Focus Blast. Oh, and it also hits like a freaking meteor falling out of orbit.

Generally speaking, Shadow Chandelure is the top ghost, and it works wonders in this raid. A double-resistance to Focus Blast combined with a resistance to Moonblast makes it situationally pretty bulky, as does its lack of weaknesses to Tapu Lele's moves. It's also the best pairing with Mega Gengar, taking full advantage of the Ghost Type boost to get a DPS that's through the roof.

The king of versatility, Shadow Mewtwo is here! However, it's still not quite as good as the Metagross duo.

Shadow Gengar can potentially out-DPS even Shadow Chandelure, but it's terribly frail when not fighting against Psycho Cut/Focus Blast or Moonblast. And even then, it's still not very bulky against its best moveset matchup.

Shadow Excadrill is generally best when its oustanding dual-typing comes in handy, but in this case it's just Steel that does the work, and its Steel Type moveset is a bit underpower. Regardless, it's still a great Pokemon that can put in great work here.

Another great ghost for this raid, Chandelure packs solid DPS and resistances to Fairy and Fighting Type moves to make getting through most movesets a breeze. It doesn't appreciate Astonish, but honestly a neutral Confusion is still more threatening.

Gholdengo has an amazing Ghost/Steel Typing, meaning it resists Tapu Lele's entire moveset. Its DPS isn't exceptionally great, but it's still a genuinely great option for this raid.

The best Poison Type counter for this raid, Nihilego can do solid damage and resists Moonblast. However, it's held back by its weakness to Psychic Type attacks, which is especially painful as Psychic Type moves are definitely Tapu Lele's best.

A bit of an oddball, Hoopa: Confined has a decent counter for this raid, especially against Focus Blast. 

An overall powerful option for this raid, Giratina - Origin has a good mix of DPS and TDO that allows it to threaten Tapu Lele despite the fact that it's weak to Moonblast. In general, this is one of the vanilla counters that works well here.

Hits hard, dies fast.

The true classic Ghost, Gengar has the same basic story that it's always had; hits hard, but its weakness to Psychic Type attacks means that it will generally not last long. 

The one true Vanilla Ghost Type, Shadow Mismagius definitely exists.

Hoopa's Unbound forme picks up a double-resistance to Tapu Lele's Psychic Type moves, but it has a lesser resistance to Focus Blast, and is also weak to Moonblast.
