Overview
You know the meme of fighting the boss in a game vs. actually having the boss on your team? Mega Gardevoir sort of embodies that concept. While it's great, it's frequently not the best option for a given raid for various reasons. And, despite this fact, fighting this thing is going to be a bit of a trip. Why, you may ask? Because Mega Gardevoir has very solid base Defense, a stupid high Attack stat, two of the most powerful Fast Moves in the game for a Raid Bass to pack, and four potentially devastating Charged Moves that come out fairly frequently and have great coverage. This thing will wreck your entire team if unprepared, and will likely take far more players than it should in theory if you're teaming up with most local groups.
Note that a Duo is possible, but very difficult for most players, so this guide will focus on the Trio instead.

Mega Gengar is your overall Mega Evolution, but Confusion will seriously injure it, while Psychic and Shadow Ball will quickly finish it off if undodged

Mega Scizor or Mega Aggron are smart alternates if your raid group is focusing on using Metagross, as they don't particularly fear anything that Mega Gardevoir can throw out and will boost Steel Types while on the field.

Shadow Metagross and normal Metagross are the priorities here, with Shadow Mewtwo as a runner up.

Try to build your team in such a way that they cover each other's weaknesses, that way you'll be more prepared for whatever random moveset that Mega Gardevoir may be ready to throw your way.

Dodging is definitely recommended, specially when facing a Charged Move that's Super Effective.

If a Pokemon is low on HP/Energy and about to face a Charged Move, let it drop. Better to lose that Pokemon than to waste time building Energy towards a Charged Move that won't come out regardless.

Mega Gengar is an absolute monster that has a DPS total well above being duo-worthy and great longevity when facing Fairy Type move sets in particular thanks to its Poison sub-typing. It will come in and wreak absolute havoc on Mega Gardevoir in short order, making it the best Pokemon for this raid, without a doubt...
....unless Mega Gardevoir is packing Confusion. Confusion will maim poor Mega Gengar, and severely reduce its performance. And then we have to address the fact that Mega Gardevoir has Psychic and Shadow Ball as Charged Moves, and we've got better than 50/50 odds that something is going to severely threaten Mega Gengar's afterlife.

Mega Scizor is one of the few Pokemon on this list that isn't weak to anything that Mega Gardevoir can throw at it. In fact, it resists Fairy and Psychic Type movesets, making it a great all-around counter. On top of that, it also boosts Steel Type attackers while on the field, giving it outstanding utility to help bring down Mega Gardevoir quickly. The one factor that keeps it out of our Top classification is the fact that its DPS is fairly low, so bringing this monster means that you'll likely be taking one for the team, so to speak.

Mega Aggron has a lot of bulk and can boost Steel Types while on the field, but it's definitely the backup option here due to its lower DPS.

While Mega Beedrill is capable of causing a fair bit of pain and has a resistance to Fairy Type movesets, its frailty means that it's not going to do much in the long run. In fact, it will be a bit hard-pressed to throw out more than one or two Sludge Bombs if Mega Gardevoir is packing Confusion. Its main advantage is boosting Poison Type moves if your raid group is invested in Nihilego. At least it double-resists Magical Leaf!

The ultimate counter to this raid, rivaled only by Mega Gengar. Duo-worthy DPS and an outstandingly high TDO that's backed up by a resistance to Fairy and a double resistance to Psychic while also resisting Triple Axel means that this is the pick for this raid! Its only down-side is a weakness to Shadow Ball, which should definitely be dodged.

While not quite Duo-worthy outside of Snowy weather/Steel Type Mega Boosts, Metagross still has outstanding power that makes it an outstanding pick for this raid, without a doubt.

Despite Psycho Cut being not very effective, Shadow Mewtwo's Shadow Ball set hits like a truck, and it doesn't have any weaknesses among Mega Gardevoir's moves save Shadow Ball. It's a very solid counter worthy of a team slot.

Thanks in part to its Steel typing, Gholdengo is one of the strongest Ghosts in terms of average performance for this raid. It resists both of Mega Gardevoir's STAB types alongside Triple Axel and Magical Leaf, and hits back hard with a mix of Hex and Shadow Ball.

The top Poison Type counter outside of Mega Evolutions, Nihilego hits hard and lasts well. It has a genuine fear of Psychic Type moves, but it also resists Fairy Type moves, so it all evens out in the end.

A DEFINITE odd-ball for this guide, Hoopa's Confined forme actually has a few advantages over its Unbound forme. Namely, it has STAB on its Ghost Type moves and no Fairy Type weakness. It's solid, but it will fold extremely quickly if Mega Gardevoir is packing Shadow Ball.

This is yet another very strange looking entry on this list, but it's actually possible to make a solid argument for Shadow Raikou in this raid. First, it's not weak to anything that Mega Gardevoir can throw at it while resisting Charge Beam, so it's a solid choice on any moveset. Second, Thunder Shock has very high Energy generation, so it's going to be able to throw out Shadow Ball pretty frequently. Third, it's going to be great to hear raid group members who don't quite have a high enough understanding yell out "Okay, who's using the Raikou?!".

A good choice, Shadow Scizor has a great set of resistances that allows it to be another universal pick. Its DPS is a bit low compared to Metagross, but it doesn't have a weakness to Shadow Ball, at least!
