Are shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Go?
As of March 22, 2017 Magikarp and Gyarados are available in Pokémon Go. No other shiny Pokémon have been found yet.

What is a shiny Pokémon?
A shiny Pokémon is like a regular Pokémon but with different colours. They are quite rare and are just for collecting and having bragging rights. Otherwise, they have all the same attributes and actions of a regular Pokémon.

What are the chances of finding a shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Go?
Nobody knows. From the games the original odds were 1:8192 but this was later changed to 1:4096. The odds in Pokémon Go may be different.
Also, /user/DazzDragon noted that it might be worth mentioning that in the main series of games, by using the Masusa method of breeding, the likelyhood of hatching a shiny pokemon from an egg increases to 1/1365. The Masuda method means breeding two Pokémon created in games of different languages which is not possible currently in Pokemon Go, but could suggest shinies might be more likely to hatch from eggs.

How do I find a shiny pokemon?
Magikarp will appear gold when encountered. Gyarados will appear red when encountered. The Pokémon will appear normal in the Nearby list and on the world map. Can you find a shiny Pokémon if you don't have the update?
Yes. The shiny Pokémon were added server-side so an update is not required. You will still see the shining stars when you encounter it that will indicate that it is a shiny. Also, the colour may still be orange and not gold until you restart.

Can you catch a shiny with Go Plus?
Yes. The person above that caught the shiny with the previous version actually caught it with the Go Plus.

Can one of my existing Magikarps that was captured before March 22nd turn into a shiny?
Probably not. If this was the case someone would have reported it by now and so far this has not happened.

If I encounter a shiny Pokémon and run away will it sill be shiny if I encounter it again?
Yes. Someone actually tested this. Crazy man!! Conversely, it would seem that re-encountering a non-shiny won't ever change it to be a shiny. I've tried this over and over and over again with no luck. Also, if you click on a Pokémon and then run away it will increase your "seen" Pokemon the Pokedex by 1 but if you do it again the "seen" won't increase. Finally, if you use a berry on the Pokémon and then run away if you encounter it again the berry will still be there. That seems to imply that the game remembers the encounters even if you run away.

I found a shiny Pokémon. Can my friend capture it too?
No, with one caveat. Shiny Pokémon are individual so it's just luck to find one. No more spoofing! Here is proof:

However, it would be theoretically possible for more than one person to catch a shiny from the same spawn if the shiny was randomly generated at the time of the encounter. If there was a 1:4096 chance of getting a shiny for one person then the next person should have the same odds. However, that would mean a 1:16,000,000 chance of two consecutive people getting a shiny.

Will there be any indication in the Pokedex that I caught a shiny?

Can I hatch a shiny Pokémon from an egg?
Currently, only Magikarps are available as shiny Pokémon and they can no longer be hatched from an egg so, no. In the future, when they add more shiny Pokémons, who knows?

I found a shiny Magikarp. Will it evolve into a shiny Gyarados?

No. The shiny only appears in the Pokedex once you've caught one.

Can my shiny Magikarp turn into a Ditto? Will the Ditto be shiny?
Yes, a shiny Magikarp can turn into a Ditto but the Ditto will be normal as shiny Dittos are not in the game yet. Proof:

P.S. Keep the Ditto!! There is some speculation that when they introduce shiny Dittos that your Ditto might become shiny. In other words, it might have the "shiny" flag but just not be displayed yet as they haven't released them yet.

If I fight a shiny with my Ditto will my Ditto transform into a shiny Pokémon?
I haven't tried this myself but I've been told that the Ditto will not transform into a shiny but just the regular form of the Pokémon.

Do shiny Pokémon have top IVs?
No. They get the regular IVs like any other Pokemons. However, there have already been reports of people catching 100% IV shiny Magikarps.

Can I transfer the shiny Pokémon?
When you try to delete a shiny Pokémon a second prompt will appear: "Do you really want to transfer this Shiny Pokémon?"
