TYRANITAR: To Keep or Not to Keep

Morning Trainers.

Probably my biggest flaw as a trainer is that I'm extremely picky, so I delete some great mons. That doesn't work well when you don't hatch an enormous amount of eggs, and play on foot. The closer I get to becoming a Master, the more laid back I am about some things now. I've always used this to push me to be honest, and set the bar higher.

Currently I don't keep anything under 87iv and movesets have to be desirable, but most of my mons are 91+iv. Because of this, my collection only stands just over a 100 at LVL39. Small army, but strong like that 300 movie, lol.

Last night was an awesome night, played for 12 hours, and finnally met Tyranitar in the wild. My question(s): what is your biggest Trainer flaw, and would you keep this guy? Btw, BxSE is really that good. ?

You're asking should you keep a wild Tyranitar with the best attacking moveset and decent CP? Oh...

The answer is yes. Yes you should.

Keep for it, maybe as a trophy for you.

I would keep it and use but I would not feed it.
...but that depends on the gyms you face.

I agree. He's putting down 3k Dragons, so hmmm. ? ...the moveset shocked me really.

Keep it until you have a better one with same moveset :). After that, or from now on if you already have a better one, still keep it, some of us will liked him if trading will be available :).
P.S. My only DB/DC (and only Dragonite until 1 week ago) is wild and 40 IV, so I have a different mindset tha you, at least for top attackers.

First off: there's no doubt in my mind that's worth keeping! Either power it up for a killer attacker or leave it where it is to do some gym prestiging against 3000 CP Dragonites.

Next: why on earth do you limit yourself to only keeping >90% IVs??? I mean, I understand being a perfectionist, and I understand that you can be picky when it comes to the more common mons (e.g., Eeveelutions), but what about the rarer elite mons (e.g., Snorlax, Blissey, Dragonite, etc.)? Surely you don't have Dragonites coming out of your ears to the point where you can justify transferring one that might be 5% weaker?

I can. The more you have, the more you have to feed, and I don't have as much (dust and the easier means producing it) as other Trainer that have better financial resources. And really it just goes back to setting the bar higher for myself. For gym purposes, the higher the attack stat the higher the CP, we know this. So that has a part in it as well. Being that I don't drive, I'm limited in my volume, though living in a major city nerfs that. Also low CP higher iv mons, I don't hold because I don't want that power bill. ?

But yeah. Few reasons. Just how I like to play, ya know.

That's fair enough. I don't spend $ on incubators or anything for the game either, though I do walk around a lot, which helps with catching wild mons and gathering stardust. But here's a question - do you level up all of your mons to max? I'll keep a key few defenders at my level, but otherwise my cap is 30 for my favorite half dozen attackers. Pokemon I don't use as often I won't power up at all. If you power up everything you have to max, that might explain your thinking...

I do the same, but I'm not big on that LVL30 trainer rule, these gyms start at 3100 around here, and I rather a mon be able to take out 2 1/2+ than 1 - 1-1/2, so I'm selective, but more on a case by case basis rather than the 30 standard. Preciate the breakdown, bro. ?

Whenever we had 2x ? events, I'd go farm Dratini, and come away with progression in my Dragonite lineups, and that's really what broke the bank. At one point, I had like 16 of them, all defenders all well over 3k. It was insanely hard feeding them, so I've since cut back. My rule of thumb was 10 Drag defenders, and 6 Drag attackers was the minimum, so 10 over 3k, and 6 around LVL30 or so. I've since minimized, lol.

Yikes! That is a LOT of dragon candy! I've seen maybe 6 Dratini total in the game. There's a reason all of my defenders are Vaporeons - much easier to collect Eevee candy. ;-P

Yeah, I've been tempted to power up some of my attackers past 30 to handle the super high CP gyms. I just haven't done it yet since I don't gym battle all that often (and then what with the supposed modifications Niantic is introducing to the combat system I've been saving resources until they roll out the changes).

I've got an 89iv 3163cp Tyranitar with the same moveset - it still sucks. Still weak to water, still has relatively weak moves, all it's good for is sitting high up in gyms due to CP.

I disagree, respectively. He's a top 5 attacker, that BxSE set, coupled w the fact that you can dodge immediately after is priceless, for me.

I'm similar to you, I only keep 89+IV mons now. But not only good moveset ones, but bad ones also. Keeping them for the eventual breeding whenever that will happen.

But it really depends on IV distribution. For example, if it's a Chansey with 15/15/10, I would keep it. If it's a Chansey with 10/15/15, I just toss it during double candy events. Based on the feedback from a question I asked a month back, I cleaned out my storage and left with plenty of space. Since I already maxed my storage to 1,000.

I would save that Tyranitar until Easter and transfer his low IV ass if there's a double candy event. You played for 12 hours? Straight? Damn... that's why you are Level 39...

Smart! Good stuff. Thanks.

Yeah, love this game, today I need to find a Scyther and Onix nests. I bombed on everything I had, smh.

Definitely keep. There will always be a market for Tyranitar when trading comes out even low IV ones. I have never seen one and only caught 2 larvitars. So, I probably would want to trade for one if I can't manage to hatch enough to evolve one.

12 hours on a weekday?! Man I am lucky if I get 1 hour in a day with the kids and work.

Thank you, buddy.

Yeah, I don't do much, make my little money, and I get my daughter on the weekends. Pokémon is LIFE, ?

Wow. Great find. I've evolved three with great IVs and terrible movesets. I would trade one of those for this one in a second lol. I say keep it.
