Spawn Spotlights break down the spawns in a given event, giving you a rough idea of how to get each featured Pokemon and what to prioritize this event! This guide is broken into three rough categories and tries to list each featured Pokemon roughly in order of importance, though that will always differ player to player.
Spawn Spotlights
- Pokemon Type: Fairy
- Useful In: PvP (Great League, Ultra League), Raids
- Boosted Weather: Cloudy
- Available From: Wild, Eggs (Cleffa), Research, Tuesday June 20 Spotlight Hour
- Research: Give your buddy a treat (Clefairy)
- Shiny Available: Yes New for Clefairy!
- Useful In: PvP (Great League, Ultra League), Raids
Clefairy’s shiny is available from wild catches for the first time as a part of this solstice event. While Clefairy spawns aren’t super plentiful, Clefairy will be the boosted spawn during Tuesday’s Spotlight hour.
Clefable is a great Pokemon in both the Great and Ultra Leagues where it can resist Dragons. In Ultra League, Clefable maxes under the 2500 cap, meaning you might want to make a lucky one your best buddy.
In Raids, Clefable is only an okay Fairy-type attacker, but it’s a passable cheap attacker if you can get one weather-boosted.
- Pokemon Type: Fire
- Boosted Weather: Clear
- Available From: Wild
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Raids, Limited PvP (Draft, Silph Cups), Rocket Battles
- Mega Evolution
Torchic appreciates its Community Day move, but can actually work fine without it if you can’t wait for December to evolve. It’s the most accessible Fire-type attacker in the game, as its competition is raid/egg/rare limited species.
Blaziken is already great and it can also Mega Evolve, meaning you’ll definitely want to make sure you have a good one!
- Pokemon Type: Dark/Ice
- Boosted Weather: Snowy, Fog
- Available From: Wild, Raids, Eggs, Rocket Battles
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Raids, PvP (Silph Cups)
Weavile is one of the best Ice-types in the game. It also doubles as a Dark-type attacker, 2nd only to Darkrai (and Ghost-types with overlapping coverage). It has use in select PvP formats, though it's rarely a top-tier choice due to its low bulk.
The pair is also one of the best shinies in the game, and a higher shiny rate to boot!
- Pokemon Type: Fire/Dark
- Boosted Weather: Clear, Fog
- Available From: Wild, Raids
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Raids, Limited PvP
- Mega Evolution
Houndoom isn’t the best Fire or Dark-type attacker, though it’s ability to do both is appreciated. Also appreciated is Houndour counting towards research tasks “Catch 3 Fire” and “Catch 3 Dark Pokemon” which reward Solrock and Lunatone respectively.
Shadow Houndoom sees some use in PvP but it’s mostly unused there.
Houndoom can also Mega Evolve.
- Pokemon Type: Ice
- Boosted Weather: Snowy
- Available From: Raids, Research
- Research: Catch 7 different Pokemon species
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: PvP (Great League, Ultra League)
Alolan Ninetales sports a unique Fairy/Ice typing, and features decent bulk plus an interesting moveset. It’s a contenter in Great and Ultra Leagues and has been a star in multiple Silph Cups
- Pokemon Type: Dark/Flying
- Boosted Weather: Fog, Windy
- Available From: Wild
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Raids, PvP (Ultra League), Limited PvP (Draft, Silph)
Murkrow has some uses in PvP even unevolved.
Honchkrow is frail, but a terrific Dark and Flying-type attacker, worth keeping in mind for Virizion. There’s a little too much competition in the Great League, but Dark-types are great in the Ultra League, so Honchkrow has some use there.
Noteworthy Spawns
- Pokemon Type: Normal
- Boosted Weather: Partly Cloudy
- Available From: Wild
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Rocket Battles, Raid Challenges (Draft), PvP (Ultra League)
Ursaring’s niche in PvP is as a counter to Giratina, moreso the Origin forme. When Giratina dominates the Ultra or Master League, this Normal-type bear is a passable option.
Other Spawns
- Pokemon Type: Rock/Psychic
- Boosted Weather: Partly Cloudy, Windy
- Available From: Wild (rotating), Raids, Research
- Research:
- Catch 3 Fire-type Pokemon Solrock
- Catch 3 Dark-type Pokemon Lunatone
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Raid Challenges (Draft)
This duo isn’t incredibly useful despite an event themed around them- the main draw to these two is their limited availability.
- From Friday, June 19, at 8:00 a.m. to Saturday, June 20, at 11:59 p.m. local time, Lunatone will appear more frequently in the wild in the eastern hemisphere and Solrock in the western hemisphere.
- From Sunday, June 21, at 12:00 a.m. to Monday, June 22, at 11:59 p.m. local time, Lunatone and Solrock will be appearing more frequently in the wild everywhere.
- From Tuesday, June 23, at 12:00 a.m. to Wednesday, June 24, at 10:00 p.m. local time, Lunatone and Solrock will be swapping hemispheres. Lunatone will be appearing more frequently in the wild in the western hemisphere and Solrock in the eastern hemisphere.
- Once the event is over, Lunatone will stay in the western hemisphere and Solrock will stay in the eastern hemisphere.
