The Pokemon Go community has always been pretty active when it comes to talking about the latest updates and sharing new information, but the recent announcement of the new Elite Raids system has sparked a particularly large amount of interest in the past day since its initial announcement, in part because it's debuting surprisingly quickly. Among this chatter, Reddit user AgentNeko from The Silph Road has gone on record with an interesting yet not particularly surprising bit of information:
Elite Raids: The New EX Raid?
So what exactly does this mean? For one, it means that players will know which gyms to watch, as EX-eligible gyms tend to be in very visible locations with high traffic, and also tend to be well known by most Pokemon Go communities despite their being shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This is great for ensuring that players don't miss these raids, as they're far more likely to be seen and reported by players than if they could happen in random, far-off locations.
However, this does raise a question: does this mean that EX Raids are done? At the moment, it's fairly hard to tell. However, this does seem like a far more inclusive and overall superior system, with the only sizable advantage of EX Raids over Elite Raids being that the former's invitational system allows players more advance time to plan and a guarantee to know the location of the raid. It's entirely possible that we may see the "EX Raid" tag on select gyms replaced with "Elite Raid" in the future.
As of right now, the reception to the Elite Raid system seems to be largely mixed-to-positive, with some players worried about the system's implementation. However, at the moment it seems that Elite Raids hold a fair bit of promise for the community, and many are looking forward to seeing what other rarities and oddities will end up hatching from these 24-hour eggs.
