Kleavor is Coming to Pokemon Go during Kleavor Raid Day

Submit Feedback or Error

It's been quite a while since our last Raid Day, but here we are! It's time to ready those raid passes and prep your team, because we've got another chance to tear up our local gyms with another focused raid day, and this one is pretty nice too. Fresh from the distant past of the Hisui region, the alternate evolution of Scyther is making its debut in Pokemon Go; Kleavor. The Axe Pokemon is potentially useful depending on its moveset, so this should be a fun time for anyone ready to tear down this three-star raid repeatedly!

Kleavor Raid Day

May 6, 2023
Event Start Event End
11:00 a.m. local time 2:00 p.m. local time
  • The Bug/Rock Type Pokemon Kleavor will take over gyms during event hours, allowing players to easily raid for it in three-star raids!
    • Shiny Kleavor will also be available to catch from raids
  • Players will be able to obtain 5 Daily Raid Passes during events and for up to 2 hours after
  • The Remote Raid pass limit will be raised to 10 for the entire day
  • Scyther will not be able to evolve into Kleavor, and it's unknown if it ever will be able to.

Kleavor's Potential

Right now, our page for Kleavor is pretty baren, and we have no immediate plans to make a Raid Guide for it. Why is this? Because we don't yet know its moveset. This means that Kleavor can range from useful to trash depending on Niantic's whims. Ah, but we can take a look at Kleavor's main-series moveset and make some extrapelations from that, so here's a list of all of the currently available moves that Kleavor can learn in the main series:

Potential Fast Moves

  • Fury Cutter
  • Quick Attack
  • Smack Down
  • Struggle Bug
  • Air Slash
  • Counter
  • Wing Attack
  • Rock Smash
  • Psycho Cut

Potential Charged Moves

  • Rock Slide
  • X-Scissor
  • Acrobatics
  • Aerial Ace
  • Swift
  • Rock Tomb
  • Air Cutter
  • Brick Break
  • Rock Blast
  • Stone Edge
  • Giga Impact
  • Hyper Beam
  • Close Combat
  • Night Slash
  • Silver Wind
  • Bug Buzz

Signature Move

  • Stone Axe (Rock Type)

Bolded moves are STAB

To start with, let's put these potential moves into context. Here are all of its Bug and Rock Type moveset outcomes, courtesy of the Comprehensive DPS/TDO Spreadsheet:

This reveals that the top movesets for both types are pretty similar in terms of DPS, though Bug pulls a bit ahead. Now, for for the sake of context, here is the list of the top Bug Type attackers with Kleavor's best possible Bug Type moveset added to the end:

And here's Kleavor in comparison to the top Rock Types:

As you can see, Kleavor has the potential to be a marginally strong-yet-squishy Rock Type attacker, and one of the better bugs in the game. Either way, Kleavor won't top any of the lists (unless it gets a Shadow forme down the line), but it will definitely be worth picking up if it gets a good moveset in one or both of its types.

...no, I have no idea why Kleavor shows up as a yellow Bulbasaur on the sheet. At times I honestly believe that this thing has quietly obtained sentience and does things like this just to mess with us. Anyways, here's a version of Kleavor with all possible Rock Type moves:

Closing

May is definitely turning out to be a big month for the long-neglected Bug Type, and we don't even know when it'll all be over. Soon it'll be time to update the Type Review for Bugs, and hopefully this will also change the future Rock Type article slightly. Either way, this promises to be a fun time, as those of us living near a glut of gyms will be able to go out and knock this rocky bug out one after another in hopes of getting a strong Shiny. Hopefully we'll eventually have a chance to evolve Scyther into Kleavor someday, as the prospects of Shadow Kleavor could be really high, assuming it gets the right moves!
