October has ended, and Halloween is behind us. As we look forward to the end of this week, let's look back on what we've lost, and remember what is yet to come. Laying to rest the "spooky" time of the year, Día de Muertos is a day of celebration and reflection, and we've compiled a quick guide to hopefully make reflection on this day a bit happier in the future!
The Important
Litwick
Sources: Wild, Field Research
Despite just recently getting its own Community Day, Chandelure doesn't actually need (or want) its Community Day move to be good, so picking up a Chancelure now is basically just as good if you need some additional Fire and/or Ghost Type damage.
Yamask
Sources: Wild, Incense/Lure Modules,
Despite the fact that we just finished up the Halloween Event that had Yamask featured, Cofagrigus is still a genuinely great Pokemon in PvP, and it's is a pretty rare find outside of the Halloween season, so aiming for one with a good PvP-IV spread is definitely a good way to spend your time.
The Good
Duskull
Sources: Wild
Dusclops has a bit of utility in PvP, but not enough to be worth hunting in general due to the fact that it really wants Return. Still, this is the headliner for the event, so it's always fun to see if you can pick up the shiny and/or a costumed variant with good IVs!
Sableye
Sources: Raids
An absolute staple of the Great League, Sableye only drops this low on our list due to the fact that it really wants to use Return for maximum effectiveness. Still, this is a great time to farm for candy, and possibly build a non-Return Sableye just in case!
Drifloon/Drifblim
Sources: Raids, Wild (Part 1)
A bit of a niche/cup pick, Drifblim can be a terrifying force if it’s in a good matchup, and the fact that it is fairly good at countering a few key Pokemon means that it can definitely get the chance. This is a Pokemon that won’t find a way onto every team, but it will perform if played to its strengths.
Houndoom
Source: Incense/Lure Modules, Field Research
Mega Houndoom may live in the shadows of the other Dark/Fire Type Mega Evolutions, but it's a solid budget pick with good average performance. Finding a good Houndoom to Mega Evolve at some point is definitely a worthwhile goal.
Dragonite
Source: Raids
The once-and-former Dragon King, Dragonite still chugs along with decent utility to this day. It's an easy skip if you have a good one or intend to revisit its upcoming Community Day, but most players are probably beyond this point in the game already.
Giratina - Origin Forme
Source: Raids
Our current Five Star Raid Boss, Giratina - Origin is still a solid way to spend a Raid Pass, but be aware of the fact that it no longer sports Shadow Force as the event to introduce it has ended.
The Others
Cubone
Sources: Wild, Incense/Lures, Field Research
Marowak is... not a great Pokemon. The only reason to try for Cubone is for candy for Alolan Marowak, or to sit on one until such a time that Niantic allows us to evolve it into Alolan Marowak.
Druddigon
Source: Raids
Druddigon is basically a worthless dragon. Pick one up for the dex fill and ignore it.
General Priorities
- Focus on candy acquisition. Pinap berries are your friend here, as when combined with the innate bonuses of this event, it’s possible to put a heavy dent in any candy deficit for the featured Pokemon.
- Set your catch-priorities, then pick a Mega Evolution to have active during the event that best matches your goal. We have a number of Ghost Types in particular, so Mega Gengar is a fine pick, though the chosen Mega should be based on your main goal.
- Focus on the Collection Challenge for more prizes!
Closing
At the very least, this is a palette cleanser for the very long Halloween festivities of this year, and one last chance to catch large numbers of specific Pokemon before they're largely laid to rest until next October. Take it easy out there, and enjoy the holiday while it lasts!
