Realistic daily quests - your ideas?

I have already listed below my 25 Pokémon per day to get an XP multiplier (maximum 25 days streak, with a big reward at the end).

What other ideas do you think would work to entice casual players back to the game?

Start of spring in combination with release of gen2.

This topic is about daily quest ideas.

Anyway, Gen 2 won't be out until July.

July is in 6 months, which is almost as much time as it's passed since the start of the game, so LOL maybe your hate for Niantic went a bit over the top this time.

Niantic will release Gen 2 when their revenues drop.

Until that day, why would they bother?

They've already announced further Pokémon are being released shortly. Don't forget the game has only just launched in Korea. I suspect now that the major regions have the game we'll see further updates.

Just have a little patience :-)

No, it is not acceptable for a company to wait until a game is released worldwide before introducing updates. That smacks of amateur hour.

With the success of last summer, it needed to be built upon. Yet some clever dick at Niantic HQ said "nah, let's not do anything for another 10 months until South Korea have the game LOLCATZ".

No wonder people don't take Niantic seriously.

What other ideas

This topic is about daily quest ideas.

Seems, as if i had interpreted "other ideas" further as you intended. Sorry.

Back to topic, daily Streaks:
(1) Training one Gym
(2) Battling one Gym
(3) Put one PKM in a neutral gym

Maybe there could be daily quests where you have to catch a certain amount of pokemon of a particular type. So like "Catch 10 flying-type pokemon and earn 500 stardust" or "Catch 5 Dragon-type pokemon and earn 1000 exp". The trainer is given the full day to complete the handful of quests of the day. Rewards can span from incubators to stardust or EXP.

This would work, but I would just make it Catch 3 of a Type.

Some types would be easier (like say Flying), Some types would be harder (like say Dragon).

The most interesting way to do this would be to give everyone a random individual type goal each day so people would talk about "ooo I got an easy one today"

Here are some other ideas

  • Taking down a gym daily and put a mon in it.
  • Prestiging a friendly gym daily and put a mon in it.
  • Walking 3km/day or 20km per week with the same buddy mon.
  • Hitting x number of great/excellent balls per day/week, granting a bonus on your next "rare" encounter.
  • Getting more than 10k-15k xp on one single day (just catching, spinning, hatching etc)

Out of daily quests but probably the better idea to bring back casuals is release full gen2, not only from eggs, and as soon as it is released diversify spawns A LOT, people won't come back to catch pidgey/rattata again, it won't happen, it would be preferable for them to move back and remove a lot of the new added spawns and increase the chance of seeing different mons on them.

Just to give a quick example, on my town since day1 is almost impossible to find rock and fire mons, like ponyta, vulpix, growlithe, geodude, rhyhorn...Make big mons migrations, switch environments, give people different things to enjoy and expect for, it has been proved that if you give them something people will actually respond and come back and spend money again.

Pvp battle it is enough to get Player back, same Smart system of fight will be nice

The basic problem is some players have a low boredom threshold and will always be wanting something new. Gen 2 won't change that - four months in the same problem will occur, and Gen 2 won't change the basic gameplay.

The basic gameplay is a 'grind' game - you need to do repetitive activities to progress - catching common Pokémon and spinning Pokestops. Yes the AR novelty attracted a lot of players initially, but that novelty soon wears off.

What has been successful have been the events, but if you have too many of them they'll become the norm and people are easily bored.

If you have daily quests they'll have to change regularly (maybe randomly chosen) or people will get bored.

Tasks/quests also bring up the problem of how do you make quests achievable for rural players as well as urban.

If a game becomes boring is a problem of the company and the people that design it, not the players, I think 6 months per gen is more than enough, no one expects this game to live forever, even at that rythm we would get the hole pokédex in around 3-4 years, not counting events and other things (don't forget that new generations will keep coming on the other Pokémon games), seems to me a pretty solid future for a game.

Holding on releasing gen2 just because on 4-5 months it will be the "same" is not an option, just my personal opinion, I know that some people thinks other way, but just with hardcore players doing the same again and again, grinding xp until reach level 40 this game is already dead.

The best way for them of keeping interest is giving us some mons until they can implement legendary, pvp, trading etc. Staying as now won't keep casuals, a lot of people were playing since launch on my town, at this point I can say for sure that less than 10% of the players are still here. That is a lot of player loss.

It's the same with any game - an initial spike in interest then as other games come out, or they decide it's not really there thing despite the hype, people drift away.

Don't forget although it's been available in some regions for six months, other places only got it in August, and Korea (a potentially large games market) has only just seen it's release. Surely it's understandable that the company would want to get global releases out of the way before further major releases. They've hardly been ignoring existing users - they added buddy walking, we've had a succession of events since October, we've had Ditto added, we've had the first of Gen2 and the imminent release of further Gen2 announced. The datamining also reveals the amount of work that has been going on behind the scenes. My guess is once the global rollouts are all but finished releases will speed up.

In my town there was a big drop off after the first couple of months as the hype died down, but from local gyms I wouldn't say there's been much change in the number of active players since October - some you don't see around often, but other new players have turned up at gyms.

I agree but only partially, I am not trying to sound selfish but it is not my fault and not my problem that the game is not fully released worldwide, as a player and a customer I expect good service and an adictive game with a lot of content to keep paying for a it, and giving us buddy system it is not even close enough to the big things most of us expect from this game like legendary events, pvp, trading and new mons just from eggs is a joke just to take more money from us, nothing else. Just like the nice Christmas gifts we actually had to pay for, seriously, calling a gift something you have to pay for?

Just a small note: I am sure no one in Japan cared that the rest of the world has not had a Lapras event, it is a game, so if I have not had the chance of getting a Lapras in more than 6 months playing why should I wait for all the world to complete their pokédex just to get new content?

Only giving my personal thoughts, I am not trying to offend anyone ;)

I agree that waiting a year for each gen is probably too long.

Both my kids and wife already pretty much stopped playing and don't care to catch stuff. Even with nothing to do if we are waiting for some of his/her activity, they rather not play Pokemon Go.

For kids, I think the novelty is catching new Pokemon. The babies were great for kids I'd assume, but older adults more interested in the gym scene, the incubators were better save for hatching regular 10km eggs and the babies were not that interesting of an event.

Problem is winter as well and this is why I'm sure there are debates internally how to release gen 2. Most of the parts are probably there, but it won't warm up and dry out for another 3 months...at least for most areas.

I can't help but assume my situation (kids losing interest) is hurting Niantic financially since catching is the bulk of the game. I assume we'd probably get more of Gen 2 sooner rather than later due to this since once you lose the customer and they moved on to another game, it's a lot harder to get them back since people only have so much time available.

I really really hope for Legendary Bird quests!
It does not necessarily have to be a daily quest, but it could have a requirement that could be obtained only once a day.

E.g.
- Capture 20 water Pokemon
- Win 20 Fights against water Pokemon in an arena
- Walk 20km with a water Pokemon as your budy
the reward would then be an ultra-rare 20km Articuno-Egg.

You can repeat the quest if you send your Articuno to the professor, but you may not start the quest if you already have an Articuno. The hatched Pokemon will always be level 20 with IVs randomly between 10 and 15, so a regular hatch.

If you dislike the moveset, you can repeat the quest by sending it to the professor, but you can only have one of each legendary bird at a time.

For the power gamer there is always the tough decision whether you want to invest dust and candy into your perfect moveset 82% IV bird, or to repeat the quest with the chance to hatch a better IV one and the risk to lose the solid moveset.
For the casual player just getting those legendary birds would be awesome and difficult enough, so I guess it could raise the motivation for all

I'd say daily quests that expire after 24 hours (get replaced), all of them give 500 xp plus a reward depending on quest. Totally random of course.
Four categories - 12 different quests total:
Pokemon catching:
a) catch an X type pokemon. Reward: 3 extra pokemon candies (the one you caught)
b) catch an evolved pokemon. Reward: 5 random pokemon candies
c) land an excellent ball throw. Reward: 2 buddy pokemon candies
Gym battling:
a) Take down 3 enemy gyms. Reward: 1500 stardust
b) Earn 5000 prestige points. Reward: 1500 stardust
c) Dodge 5 charge attacks. Reward: 1500 stardust
Pokestops:
a) Spin 15 pokestops. Reward: 12 pokeballs
b) Spin a pokestop 5 times. Reward: 8 great balls
c) Spin 8 different pokestops. Reward: 4 ultra balls
Egg hatching:
a) Hatch one egg. Reward: Random 2k egg
b) Hatch two eggs. Reward: Random 10k egg
c) Hatch three eggs. Reward: 1-use incubator

Wasn't really creative with the gym rewards, but I couldn't think of something better (and realistic)
